Speed kills

Hearing about that terrible accident on the tollway near Don Muang, in which nine people were killed, just reinforces my opinion of those idiots who drive the kind of mini-van involved in that tragedy.

Let's be honest, they drive much too fast and as if they own the road. No one else matters. It's just terrible. And the police do nothing to stop them, which maybe just goes to show who's really behind them.

Don't they have CCTV cameras on the roads to prevent crazy drivers? If not, they should, very quickly.

Honest reviews?

Who's your columnist Tara trying to kid? She reckons Bangkok needs honest food reviewers, not pople who write only nice things about restaurants. Get real, kid.

Try saying something negative / honest / bad about someone's food business here, and see what happens to you. You'll end up being sued and given a helfty fine for libel. Frankly, I think most restaurants here do their best to please and as long as I know I'm not going to be overcharged, or poisoned, I can put up with a reasonably sweet review.

Remember Tara, this is Thailand - not the UK or US, where reviewers like the ghastly Michael Winner can get away with saying the most horrible things about a restaurant and in doing so jeopardizes that business and the livelihood of its owner.

G. Davies, food reviewer
