Not my drugs, officer

The story of an unwitting mule

Published: 11.05.2011 05:41

A CHANCE meeting of two friends after many years gave one of them an opportunity to disclose for the first time an incident that could have had dire consequences for the other. Long ago, this pair discovered they were leaving their jobs in Thailand at more or less the same time. One of the friends had a much bigger baggage allowance than the other and offered him space for certain belongings. Back in the UK, the second guy collected his stuff, thanked his chum and that was that. Two decades later, they bumped into each other, which led to the fellow with the larger baggage allowance revealing that, on arrival back in the UK, he had been surprised to discover a large stash of ganja in a bag taken from Thailand. The weed was his, he admitted, but claimed he didn’t mean to bring it with him; the packer had accidentally put it in a bag. Unfortunately, the bag in question was the very one his friend had asked him to transport to the UK. Which just goes to show that you must never let anyone tamper with your suitcase or travel bag.
