Honest reviews?

Why you can't always believe what you read in Bangkok

Published: 13.06.2011 03:51

Who's your columnist Tara trying to kid? She reckons Bangkok needs honest food reviewers, not people who write only nice things about restaurants. Get real, kid.

Try saying something negative / honest / bad about someone's food business here, and see what happens to you. You'll end up being sued and given a helfty fine for libel. Frankly, I think most restaurants here do their best to please and as long as I know I'm not going to be overcharged, or poisoned, I can put up with a reasonably sweet review.

Remember Tara, this is Thailand - not the UK or US, where reviewers like the ghastly Michael Winner can get away with saying the most horrible things about a restaurant and in doing so jeopardizes that business and the livelihood of its owner.
