ON Friday 27 May 2011, athletes from the New International School of Thailand (NIST) gathered at the Landmark hotel to celebrate a particularly eventful and successful year in sports.
NIST coaches and administration staff proudly presented awards to those athletes selected as ‘Most Improved Player’ (MIP) and ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) in both the Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference (BISAC) division, and South East Asian Student Activities Conference (SEASAC) division.
The evening culminated with the presentation of the NIST Boys/Girls Sportsmanship Award, presented by Jocelyn Parfaite from the NIST Parent and Teacher Association (NIPTA); and the NIST Boys/Girls Athlete of the Year award, which was presented by Headmaster Mr. Simon Leslie. Emily Chen and Matthew Christensen were awarded for their outstanding sportsmanship, and Samantha Calvet and Christoph Durrenmatt were presented with the coveted ‘Athlete’ of the year award.
Guest speaker on the evening was former NBA Lakers player Ike Nwankwo, who spoke candidly and honestly on the role sports has played in his life, and told the students that to achieve their dreams they have to show determination and hard work.
