DESPITE its name, there is much more to Al Massimo than just Italian cuisine. This attractive restaurant also serves an impressive selection of international gourmet dishes.
Located on the ground floor of Chaophya Park Hotel, Al Massimo is a thoroughly contemporary dark wood diner overlooking lush gardens and spacious parking area, offering excellent Thai and Western favorites at reasonable prices. There’s more good news this month with the addition of some exciting fusion dishes.
Originally the restaurant was an Italian buffet dinner venue, serving traditional delicacies. However, in order to please a wider audience of customers, it was given a design upgrade with comfy seats, brown oak wooden-flooring, glass walls and decoration, along with a comprehensive international menu.
The transformation has given Al Massimo a really modern vibe, open for dinner.
The idea of adding modern fusion dishes come from the restaurant’s talented new Executive Chef, Khun Amnart Jitkwan, who has over 20 years’ experience in the kitchen. You will also note his Thai influence in the tastes and flavours in many other creations, including salad, soup, burgers, grills, seafood, rice, pasta, noodles and desserts. The menu also features a selection of vegetarian dishes.
The two dishes we tried were the Grilled Norwegian salmon layered with a juicy piece of grilled eel served with tasty rich wasabi mashed potatoes and ginger white wine cream sauce (390++ baht), and Roasted lack of lamb served with vegetables ratatouille and roasted garlic balsamico sauce (390++ baht).
Both were wonderfully different and offered a diversity of interesting tastes. Of the two, we agreed the first dish was our star of the night.
In addition to the new menu, Al Massimo serves classic Thai noodle dishes like Lad-Naar Moo or Gai, fried noodle in thick sauce with egg and pork or chicken (130++ baht.) Pasta dishes start from 185++ baht, and there’s a decent selection of burgers and steaks. Considering the size and ingredients of each portion, the prices were significantly lower than we had thought.
To complement a great dining experience, the restaurant has wines from the new and old world, plus some great cocktails, such as the signature Pink Lady or Margarita, at each at 160++ baht from the adjoining Lobby Lounge & Bar.
