Dine like an Egyptian at The Square

Experience the fragrant cuisine of the Pharaohs during Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square’s Egyptian Food Festival. Only from Sept 16 – 25 at The Square Restaurant

THE world’s first modern civilization may be best known for constructing the spectacular pyramids, but they were also culinary pioneers. So much so that today Egyptian food is still prepared using the techniques established in the time of the pharaohs around 5,000 years ago.

Most food is made using fragrant onions and garlic, and every dish is always accompanied by flat unleavened pocket-breads and side dishes prepared from vegetables, beans and rice. The pocket-breads are ideal to scoop up, or wrap, the selected dishes and, in turn, become an integral component of the cuisine itself.

Meat for the Egyptians is not a main part of the meal, given the small sliver of grazable land either side of the Nile. While dairy cows provide a variety of farmer-style cheeses, the meat consumed in dishes highlights lamb, goat and domesticated pigeons.

You can sample five-star Egyptian cuisine for yourself this month at The Square Restaurant, Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square. The restaurant is hosting an Egyptian Food Festival Buffet featuring the exquisite creations of Guest chefs Yaya el Nahass and Abdel Atif from Sofitel Cairo Maadi Towers & Casino, who are being flown to town for the occasion by Etihad Airways.

Amongst the highlights are Lentils soup with condiments; Oriental Mezzeh; Oriental sausage; Khalta rice with nuts and dry raisin; Semolina with lamb shank and vegetables; Rokak dough with ground beef; Whole fish harr with ground beef; Whole fish harr with vegetables; Shawerma chicken; Aysh Elsaraya; and Konafa Osmanly.

Throughout the evening diners can enjoy the tantalizing sounds of the Far East and Egypt, with a special Belly Dance Extravaganza taking centre stage mid-way through the evening.

Priced at only 890 Baht++ per person, the buffet also includes a wide selection of other international dishes from Europe, Asia and India; plus diners have the chance to win a selection of fabulous prizes.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience five-star Egyptian cuisine in Bangkok.
