Boutique luxury design hotel to offer streetside gourmet comfort food in the heart of the Thai capital’s shopping and entertainment district
Bangkok’s new luxury boutique stay, akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok is opening a new dining and drinking establishment just a short walk from Bangkok’s vibrant thoroughfare, Sukhumvit Road, a stroll away from the capital’s award-winning shopping malls EmQuartier, Emporium and Terminal 21. The hotel’s chic ground floor roadside eatery, Siam Soul Café, boasts a spacious contemporary retro design with rich textures, classic marble, modern monochrome tones and Thai inspired touches. Hotel guests, local residents and casual passers by can enjoy a varied breakfast menu with craft coffees, as well as an elaborate choice of Thai and Western gourmet comfort food served throughout the day. |
The modest yet fresh and inventive menu was co-created by the hotel’s Swiss manager, Thomas Singenberger and its Thai Executive Chef Sutthaporn Chulavachana. Thomas previously worked with prestigious La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and Chef Sutthaporn is one of Thailand’s most experienced female chefs. She specializes in Southeast Asian fusion cuisine and honed her culinary skills in the kitchens of global hotel brands such as Shangri La Bangkok, Intercontinental Shenzen and Sheraton Wuhan in China.
“It was exciting for me to bring some of my original dishes to this menu, as well as creating new ones, “says Chef Sutthaporn. “I have mixed elements of Thai, Asian and Western cuisine to offer people fresh flavours using only the best ingredients,” she added.
Thai menu highlights include the chef’s own take on a classic Thai red curry with tender slow-cooked beef cheek infused with dried chili, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime, garlic and coriander. On the western side, the akyra breakfast tortilla served with cheesy scrambled eggs is already a firm favorite at Siam Soul Café, while the smoked pulled pork burger is a hit with the lunchtime crowd and the quinoa salad with tomato and avocado satisfies healthy appetites. Delicious desserts include a light raspberry panna cotta, irresistible mango sticky rice and the chef’s own banana coconut soufflé.
“We included some traditional Thai dishes, then complemented these with the best international flavours and ingredients to go way beyond standard hotel fare and offer something really special,” adds Thomas.
The 50-room akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok the first single-use plastic free hotel to launch in Asia and will open in June to offer re-imagined urban accommodation in the heart of the Thai capital’s most dynamic district.
