PepsiCo Services Asia Co., Ltd. (“PepsiCo Thailand”), Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and GMM Show under GMM Music Co., Ltd. join forces together in entire managing and segregating waste during the upcoming 13th Big Mountain Music Festival, the biggest music festival in Thailand, which will be held at The Ocean Khao Yai in Nakhon Ratchasima province between 9th – 10th December 2023. Music enthusiasts are urged to actively participate by segregating and disposing waste responsibly for recycling under the “Munz Mai Ting” Campaign (Enjoy and Reduce Waste). This initiative aims to create an "eco-friendly concert," – protect the environment as well as help to create the circular economy concretely.
Across the 300 Rai of this music festival, there will be 50 waste segregation and disposal stations distributed throughout the event area. These stations are designed to segregate four categories of waste (1) PET plastic bottles – this bin is especially designed for PET bottle disposal; (2) aluminum can; (3) food waste; and (4) general waste. After the event, all four categories of waste will go to a proper recycling process or utilization. "The Geen," an environmental communication and management company, will be handling waste segregation by more than 200 dedicated staffs and volunteers stationed across all waste segregation locations, marking the initial step towards effective waste management.
GMM Show, the organizer of this music festival, asks for cooperation from concert goers to segregate waste before disposal for recycling purpose. This will prevent waste from being left behind and create a problem for local people. The Big Mountain Music Festival this year is expected to welcome at least 70,000 people daily and GMM Show strongly believes that the waste management this year will also get a support from music fans who are the new generations having environmental consciousness. This is considered to leverage the standard of watching concerts in Thailand that is more environmentally responsible.
PepsiCo Thailand and Suntory PepsiCo Thailand point out that the efficient management and segregation of post-consumer packaging will not only help reducing the amount of waste into landfills, but also minimizing the usage of new resources, contributing significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering the circular economy by recycling used packaging into new materials endlessly. Particularly, all PET bottles used during the event will undergo recycling process into rPET or known as "Bottle-to-Bottle Recycling."
