NEW York post-punk quartet Stellastarr* certainly knows how to write a catchy tune.

The band’s first hit-single, ‘My Coco,’ for example, is still a favourite with rock fans across the globe – and that was released way back in 2003.

Now Stellastarr* is set to infiltrate listeners’ brains once again with its third album, “Civilized” – a poppy, bouncy, and sometimes gloomy record that offers a fun, if undemanding listen.

August 29 – 30 at Bhumibol Dam, Tak Province

THE annual Bhumibol Dam Invitation International Mountain Bike Championships has gained a glowing reputation for offering exciting racing among breathtaking scenery.

The competition is aimed at all levels of bikers, with thrill seekers being able to drop down steep slopes through jungle terrain, and recreational cyclists able to enjoy the steady pace of a trail over rolling hills that border the reservoir.

The race categories are: Long distance 60 km; family 16 km; tour biking 10 km; cyclo-cross, on the dam’s crest, fi ve km; international race 39 km; and amateur 24 km.

As well as all the racing, the event includes fun activities such as an ‘ancient bike’ contest, and also boasts stalls selling bike equipment at discounted prices.

Bhumibol Dam is located in Tak province, 426 km north of Bangkok. The race site is 60 km north of Tak provincial town, where most of the hotel accommodation is located.
