The InterContinental-B.Grimm Beach Polo 2022 is packed with sensation, fun-filled activities and fair for a good cause
B.Grimm, Proud Group, InterContinental Hua Hin Resort and Bluport Hua Hin will jointly hold Asia's largest beach polo event in Hua Hin on 9 April. The InterContinental-B.Grimm Beach Polo 2022 will take place on the beach in front of the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, with the winner receiving HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Cup. Proceeds from the event will go to the Nabha Foundation under the patronage of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha for charity.
Mr. Suwat Liptapanlop, former Deputy Prime Minister who is serving as the president of the tournament's management adviser, said the event is the most spectacular event of its kind in Asia that has been held for 11 consecutive years.
The tournament is supported by the government and private sectors including the Equestrian Association of Thailand, Nabha Foundation and Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
The international sporting event has always been staged in Hua Hin because the resort city offers beautiful scenery and charm associated with horse riding along the beach, one of the important characteristics of Hua Hin. Furthermore, the beach in Hua Hun is wide enough to accommodate the tournament and polo is a popular sport among celebrities, thus making the city only place in Thailand best suited for holding beach polo for a long time.
“Aside from promoting Thai polo sport to the world stage, this tournament will help publicising Hua Hin and Thailand as a major tourist destination. One of the other objectives of the event is charity, with crafts made by inmates and the painting from The Gallery Hua Hin presented by Bangchak, painted by Ajarn Thawee Kesa-ngam, director of the Hua Hin Artist House, being auctioned. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Nabha Foundation that provides assistance to the underprivileged, especially women serving a sentence in a prison to be able to return to normal life in society, according to Mr Suwat.
Mr. Harald Link, chairman of the tournament, Presidents of the B.Grimm Group and the Equestrian Association of Thailand, said the event demonstrates the country's potential in hosting an international-scale polo tournament. “The unique challenge of the beach polo event is to calculate and monitor the tide times each year in order to determine the right time when the tide has receded to an appropriate level for the competition. "Furthermore, the polo ball has been changed to that is made from rubber similar to a soccer ball and being smaller in size instead of regular polo balls. "But rules of competition according to international standards are still applied," Dr Link, the pioneer of beach polo in Thailand, noted.
This year, the last two teams competing for HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Cup are from Thailand and Argentina. This year is also a special one as it marks 144th anniversary of the B.Grimm conglomerate, the tournament's main sponsor. Apart from spectacular competition, there are shops, food and beverage outlets, fun-filled activities such as charitable games to win prizes and a fashion show on horseback from day to night. It is noteworthy that there will be a parade of more than 60 horses from all over the city of Hua Hin at the event to symbolise the identity of this famous tourist city," he concluded.
Ms.Proudputh Liptapanlop, Executive Director of Proud Group, said: "InterContinental Hua Hin Resort is delighted to jointly host the tournament for 11 years in a row. "The beach in front of our hotel is ample and ideal for holding the tournament and there are various 5-star facilities in place to support the event. There are more than 159 rooms in the Beach Wing, the beachfront and the Bluport Wing that can easily connect to the Bluport shopping centre. The hotel is also pet friendly, completed with eight restaurants and bars, an outdoor pool, fitness centre, kids club, spa services and conference rooms.
She said after the daytime competition is over, the hotel invited everyone to watch the sunset and feel the freshness of the sea breeze in a warm and cosy atmosphere like a family at a dinner party by the gulf to welcome athletes and honoured guests. The Fire Side Zone and the recently opened CoCco Bar will be decorated in retro-chic style with a tropical touch as venues for the dinner party under the theme of 'Miami Vice.' The theme is inspired by the bright colours of the 80's Miami summer in the shades of pink, blue, yellow, with the atmosphere of a beach club in the summer of Hua Hin. Here guests can indulge in cuisine with carefully selected raw materials such as fresh seafood, barbecue, and premium meat dishes such as burgers, Beef Stroganoff, as well as desserts and drinks while enjoying the music and special performances.
Beach Polo is held only at Hua Hin Beach. It is an international competition that attracts both Thai and foreign tourists to Hua Hin and other tourist attractions in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. This event will have a positive effect on the economy at the local and national scales as well as promoting tourism of the country as a whole. As the host, we are ready in terms of venue and personnel to cater to people attending the event as well as strictly implementing the Covid-19 health protocols and security measures.
Mr.Ekaphop Detkriangkraisorn, Vice President of the Nabha Foundation, said the foundation is pleased to receive continued support from the beach polo organisers and is thankful for them giving opportunities to former inmates, underprivileged and disabled people who comprise a relatively large number in today's society. "We strongly believe that if they are given the opportunity to develop their skills and proving their potential, they will be able to live in the society normally and benefit the society. "It is great to see the organisers joining forces with the foundation to encourage society to realise the importance of creating a society of opportunity together."
