On the important occasion of International Women's Day 2025, Marriott International is proud to celebrate the talented, passionate and inspiring women who drive our business forward.
This year, we’d like to shine a spotlight on Karianne Rutten, the Cluster Director of Sales & Marketing who oversees six hotels and resorts in Bangkok, Phuket, Hua Hin, and Pattaya. Karianne is a wonderful example of Marriott’s “Putting People First” policy, which empowers everybody in the organization, at any level, to achieve success and progression based solely on their ability and performance.

Karianne’s journey with Marriott began back in 2005, when she was a Front Office Supervisor at The Westin Rotterdam in her native Netherlands. In the 20 years since, she has worked her way up through increasingly senior roles with Starwood and Marriott, to become one of the group’s most respected executives. She is now firmly on the path to becoming a general manager.
Throughout her impressive career, which has taken her to the UK, Portugal and Thailand, Karianne has overcome many challenges and produced exceptional results. She is a motivator and a mentor, an analyst and a problem-solver, an innovator and a leader.
Her ability has been recognized with multiple accolades, such as the Revenue Management Special Achievement Award, Bangkok AWC Cluster (Q2, 2021), Direct Digital Growth APEC Award (Q1 & Q2 2021), and Revenue Management Property Team Award, Premium, APEC and Global (2018).
In a world that sadly remains unequal, Karianne is a wonderful example of how, in a genuine meritocracy, talent will always shine through – regardless of gender, identity, race or religion. Under Marriott’s “Serve360” goals, the company is committed to ensuring complete gender equality across its entire business. As we mark #IWD2025, we are proud to call Karianne one of our own.
