Koh Samui, Thailand – May 4th, 2025 – Hyatt Regency Koh Samui, in partnership with New Energy Capital Asia, proudly announces the successful completion of a state-of-the-art 515kWp solar rooftop system, marking a major milestone in the resort’s sustainability journey. Developed and owned

by New Energy Capital Asia is now fully operational, providing significant cost and energy savings while reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

The solar rooftop system is expected to generate approximately 760,000 kWh of clean energy annually, offsetting around 377 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year. This initiative supports Hyatt’s 2030 Environmental Goals, specifically in climate change and water conservation, by advancing energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy. Additionally, the system will deliver substantial long-term electricity savings for the resort, reducing operational costs while enhancing environmental sustainability.
A Comprehensive Approach to Sustainability

Beyond the installation of the solar rooftop system, Hyatt Regency Koh Samui has introduced additional eco-friendly initiatives to further strengthen its sustainability commitment:

  • Desalination Plant Installation: To protect Koh Samui’s precious groundwater resources, the resort is in process of installing a small-scale desalination plant that provides
a sustainable alternative to groundwater usage. This innovation ensures the preservation of the island’s natural water table while meeting the resort’s water needs, aligning with
Hyatt’s water conservation objectives.

  • Smart Room Sensors: The resort has deployed advanced sensors in guest
rooms to optimize energy efficiency by regulating air conditioning usage based on occupancy. These sensors reduce unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining guest comfort, contributing to Hyatt’s commitment to efficiency-driven climate action.

  • Food Waste Management:
The resort proudly contributed to the development of the Hotel Waste Measurement Methodology, implementing an advanced system to effectively minimize food waste. In 2024, the team achieved a remarkable 36% reduction in food waste through meticulous segregation and effective management practices.

  • Sustainable Sourcing:
Supporting local communities and promoting ethical sourcing, the resort sources at least 85% of its ingredients from within Thailand. Free-range, cage-free chicken and eggs are supplied by local sustainable farms, ensuring quality and traceability. Additionally, in-house cultivation of microgreens reduces reliance on external suppliers, enhancing the freshness and flavor of dishes.
  • Coral Reef Rehabilitation

To enhance marine ecology at our house reef, Hyatt Regency Koh Samui is developing a Coral Reef Rehabilitation plan. This plan, guided by scientific knowledge and the guidelines of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, aims to rehabilitate and protect the marine ecosystem. The initiative is set to launch in June 2025 and is expected to be completed by July 2026.
A Partnership Delivering Clean Energy & Cost Savings

The solar rooftop system at Hyatt Regency Koh Samui was developed and is managed by New Energy Capital Asia, a leading renewable energy provider specializing in sustainability-driven solutions for the hospitality sector. Through this partnership, the resort benefits from renewable energy while New Energy Capital Asia oversees the full operation and maintenance of the system.

“We are excited to partner with Hyatt Regency Koh Samui to deliver this transformative solar project,” said Marc Lamsfuss, Co-Founder and CEO of New Energy Capital Asia. “This system not only advances sustainability efforts but also provides long-term energy savings for the resort. It’s a
perfect example of how clean energy can drive financial and environmental benefits simultaneously.”

Sustainable Excellence and Operational Efficiency

Hyatt Regency Koh Samui has long been recognized for its breathtaking beachfront location and exceptional hospitality. With the addition of the solar rooftop system, desalination plant, and smart energy solutions, the resort is redefining luxury by seamlessly integrating sustainability, cost efficiency, and guest experience.

“On behalf of Vipat Holdings, our mission is to transform sustainability from a concept into impactful action—both operationally and financially. At Hyatt Regency Koh Samui, we are proud to lead in green resort innovation by embracing sustainable water management, solar energy, local food sourcing, and soon, coral and marine ecosystem rehabilitation. We believe creating a better world is not only possible but essential—for our guests, our communities, and all our stakeholders,” said Mr. Ithichai Poolvaraluck, owner of Hyatt Regency Koh Samui.

“At Hyatt Regency Koh Samui, we are committed to operating responsibly while delivering exceptional guest experiences,” said Pravin Kumar, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Koh Samui. “With our new solar system, energy-efficient technologies, and water conservation efforts, we are making impactful strides toward sustainability while lowering operating costs. This project supports Hyatt’s global environmental goals and reinforces our commitment to a more sustainable future.”

Looking Ahead

As part of Hyatt’s 2030 Environmental Goals, Hyatt Regency Koh Samui will continue to explore innovative solutions that reduce emissions, optimize resource efficiency, and deliver additional cost savings through sustainable practices.
