The Corner Shop at Mondrian Hong Kong, a dynamic street-level space that seamlessly blends art, culture, and community, is proud to announce its latest exhibition, “Shell Scapes: Reforming Waste.” This performance art piece, created by the talented Tiffany Pattinson, Redress’ current designer in residence, will be showcased starting from September 14, 2024. Supported by Mondrian Hong Kong, this innovative project is part of a broader partnership with Redress, a pioneering charity dedicated to reducing textile waste and promoting sustainable fashion.
About “Shell Scapes: Reforming Waste”
In this captivating live performance, Tiffany Pattinson will explore the intricate relationship between waste and art, transforming discarded garments into stunning sculptures inspired by the natural world. Drawing on Hong Kong’s deep connection with oysters, known as the "Pearl of the Orient," Tiffany’s work celebrates these remarkable creatures, which play a vital role in combating climate change by storing carbon, filtering water, and protecting coastal communities.
The performance will unfold in three phases:
About The Corner Shop
Launched with much acclaim, Mondrian Hong Kong’s The Corner Shop is more than just a pop-up space; it is a cultural cornerstone that has become synonymous with cutting-edge creativity and community engagement. Located at 8A Hart Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui, The Corner Shop is dedicated to exploring the art of the possible, perfecting the pop-up, and making art an integral part of everyday life.
Since its debut, The Corner Shop has hosted a series of thought-provoking exhibitions, beginning with “CRUSHING IT” by Caroline Tronel, also known as “The French Girl.” Tronel’s “Giant Crushed Cans” installation, which pushed boundaries and sparked conversations about sustainability, set the tone for what has become a space for the extraordinary to meet the everyday. From guerilla art and curated cool to silent DJ events and classical concerts, The Corner Shop is where culture and creativity converge in surprising and inspiring ways.
Each of these exhibitions has reinforced Mondrian Hong Kong’s commitment to being more than just a hotel, but a hub of cultural dialogue, local talent, and community connection.

- Phase 1 - Clean as I Create: Tiffany will begin by sorting garments destined for landfill, meticulously arranging them by material and color.
- Phase 2 - Turning Trash into Pearls: The sorted garments will be transformed into fabric twines, with the size and volume of each “pearl” influenced by the engagement of viewers and passersby.
- Phase 3 - Building Structures: The final phase will see the twines compiled into sculptural home goods, including rugs, vases, and stools, all available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the work of Redress.
