With a distinguished career spanning over 25 years across Asia’s most recognized hospitality brands, Thanatouch Kaiwannon shares his strategic vision for the future of the industry—and outlines why the domestic Thailand market holds immense, evolving potential for multi-segment hospitality growth.

Q: Could you please introduce yourself and share a retrospective of your journey within the tourism and hotel industry?

Thanatouch Kaiwannon: My name is Thanatouch Kaiwannon, though many in the industry know me as Paul. I currently have the privilege of serving as the General Manager of Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok.

My professional journey in hospitality extends over 25 years, during which I have collaborated with both celebrated international hospitality groups and leading homegrown Thai brands. This diverse exposure has allowed me to manage operations across multiple distinct segments, including high-volume city hotels, premier MICE and convention properties, leisure-focused resorts, and boutique lifestyle hospitality. Throughout this timeline, I have held cross-functional leadership roles encompassing hotel operations, sales and marketing, corporate business development, and comprehensive property management.

Before assuming my current role at Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok in 2026, my career was shaped by pivotal leadership tenures at notable properties. These include Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya, Amari, Novotel, Pullman King Power, Lebua Hotels & Resorts, Grande Centre Point Terminal 21, The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, and Grand China Hotel Bangkok. Beyond day-to-day property operations, I am deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of hospitality professionals, which is why I also dedicate time as a guest lecturer for MBA hospitality programs here in Thailand.
Q: What are your insights regarding the future landscape of the hospitality industry in Thailand, Asia, and globally? Furthermore, what emerging trends are currently shaping the Asian hospitality sector?

Thanatouch Kaiwannon: I remain resolutely optimistic about the trajectory of the hospitality industry. This optimism is particularly true for Asia, which consistently proves to be one of the most dynamic and rapidly expanding tourism regions on the global map.

Thailand retains its status as an exceptionally attractive global destination. This enduring appeal is built upon a unique synergy of our deeply rooted culture of hospitality, world-renowned cuisine, a robust wellness ecosystem, strong value-for-money propositions, and a highly developed tourism infrastructure. However, the macro-environment is changing rapidly; modern hotels can no longer rely on traditional accommodation models and must evolve to meet new traveler expectations.

When looking at the shifts shaping Asia's hospitality landscape, several macro-trends stand out:
  • The Shift to Experience-Driven Travel: Modern guests prioritize meaning over material stay. They look for authentic local culture, immersive experiences, and true emotional connections rather than a standardized room.
  • The Acceleration of MICE and ‘Bleisure’: The intentional blur between business and leisure travel continues to expand robustly across key Asian hubs. Cities like Bangkok, Singapore, and Dubai are at the forefront of hosting travelers who seamlessly extend corporate trips into personal holidays.
  • Wellness and Sustainable Operations: Environmental responsibility and personal well-being have shifted from niche preferences to core consumer expectations. Sustainable hospitality and green initiatives are now baseline requirements for brand loyalty.
  • Intelligent Tech and AI Integration: Digital transformation is rewriting operational efficiency. From AI-driven personalization and smart room ecosystems to data-centric decision-making, technology is critical to modern guest engagement.
  • The Irreplaceable Value of Human Connection: While technology optimizes the guest journey, genuine human empathy remains the heart of hospitality. Digital tools should elevate service delivery, but they can never replicate authentic human care.

Ultimately, the market leaders of the next era will be the properties that successfully balance cutting-edge technology and sustainability with heartfelt, human-centric service.

Q: Could you provide an overview of Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok and what defines its unique positioning?

Thanatouch Kaiwannon: Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok stands as one of the city's true hospitality icons. It is a large-scale property strategically positioned within Bangkok’s historic old quarters, offering our guests a unique vantage point that bridges classic cultural landmarks with contemporary business districts.

The hotel features an impressive inventory of 744 guest rooms and suites, complemented by extensive meeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition (MICE) spaces, multiple specialized dining venues, dedicated wellness facilities, and panoramic views of the city skyline. Our convention infrastructure is specifically engineered to host large-scale international summits, major corporate exhibitions, and grand social events, establishing us as a cornerstone MICE hotel in the capital.

The distinct competitive advantage of Prince Palace lies in a rare combination of attributes: our grand scale of operations, a resort-style ambiance carved directly into the urban center of Bangkok, an exceptional value proposition, the rich cultural heritage of our surrounding neighborhood, and our unwavering commitment to warm Thai hospitality.

We are currently executing an internal organizational transformation guided by a singular, forward-looking vision: “To be the most preferred hotel in the heart of Bangkok for innovative MICE customers and all travelers.” This blueprint drives our ongoing modernization, service refinement, and commitment to sustainable growth.

Q: What drives guest preference for Prince Palace Hotel, and how do you evaluate your primary international markets—specifically the potential of the market in Thailand?

Thanatouch Kaiwannon: Our guests consistently choose Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok because we successfully address several critical travel priorities. These include our remarkably spacious accommodations, excellent value for investment, premier event spaces, and a location that connects old-world charm with modern convenience. Furthermore, our environment is naturally suited for multi-generational families and large travel groups, all underpinned by a deeply ingrained culture of service.

Our international market footprint is highly diversified, drawing strength from Europe, the Middle East, India, China, and Southeast Asia, alongside global corporate and MICE business. Within the European continent, we enjoy steady, positive growth from mature source markets including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and various regions across Eastern Europe.

When evaluating the domestic market in Thailand, we see immense, sophisticated potential that dictates the future of our operations. Modern Thai travelers and corporate clients are exceptionally discerning; they seek high-quality experiences, seamless digital convenience, and strong value propositions.

For the domestic MICE sector, Bangkok remains the central economic engine, and we are seeing a significant surge in demand from local government agencies, state enterprises, and corporate firms hosting domestic conferences, team-building seminars, and grand scale banquets. On the leisure side, the trend of staycations and cross-regional family travel within Thailand continues to thrive. Thai guests appreciate our grand resort-style atmosphere in the city center and our deep connection to Bangkok's heritage.

By continuously elevating our digital touchpoints and tailoring our service delivery to local preferences, we believe Prince Palace is perfectly positioned to capture this high-yielding domestic market, proving that our home market is a vital pillar for sustainable long-term growth.

Q: Given the digital shift, what is the current ratio between your online bookings and traditional distribution channels, and what is your strategy for navigating this evolution?

Thanatouch Kaiwannon: The modern hospitality ecosystem is undeniably digital-first. At present, approximately 55% to 65% of our total booking volume is generated through digital channels, which include Online Travel Agencies (OTAs), our direct brand website, and various digital reservation platforms. The remaining volume is driven by vital traditional segments, such as corporate contracts, travel agencies, wholesalers, specialized MICE accounts, and long-stay corporate partnerships.

However, a sophisticated hotel strategy today is not merely about increasing dependency on third-party online agencies. The real objective lies in achieving an optimal channel mix while systematically strengthening direct booking avenues and cultivating long-term customer loyalty.

At Prince Palace Hotel, our commercial focus centers on upgrading our digital marketing capabilities, sharpening SEO and web visibility, maximizing real-time guest engagement, and refining our direct-to-consumer booking strategies. Simultaneously, we continue to nurture our deep, long-standing relationships with traditional corporate and travel trade partners. Long-term commercial success belongs to hotels that command a robust, omni-channel distribution strategy, fully supported by an exceptional on-property guest experience.
