The New Ark was designed by Director Jacq and carved out of wood by Thai artist Suwat Boontam and measures 2.8 x 2.2 x 1.8 meters (110” x 87”x 71”). “It features the ten basic geometrical formulas at work in every human cell and living creature, and in music, light, and the whole universe“ commented Director Jacq.
“The New Ark is derived from the Ark of the Covenant, a gold-covered wooden chest that contained the original Ten Commandments. The sacred artifact was stolen during one of the invasions of Jerusalem. Centuries later, people throughout the world have been trying to find it, including Indiana Jones in Steven Spielberg’s classic film. But in reality, it seems to be gone forever.”
The New Ark is also an interactive installation that plays a visual symphony of lights and musical notes created by the public on a live-streamed website. Thus, visitors become the co-composers of “the symphony of humankind” – sharing a message of unity.
Other participating artists include Suwat Boontam. Thongmai Thepram, Vipoo Srivilasa, Pichai Pongsasaovapark (Thailand); Marisa Papen, Ilse Van Roy and Nick Ervinck (Belgium); Mu Pan ( Taiwan and the United States); Daniel Martin Diaz (United States); Alessandro Sicioldr (Italy); Stéphane Blanquet (France); and Michael Hutter (Germany).
