Amid the fast-changing world, the act of “giving” is a silent power that generates hopes, fulfills people’s hearts and makes life so meaningful. For over the past 56 years, the Ramathibodi Foundation has strongly believed that “the happiness of giving…never ends”. This year, the heartfelt value of giving and generosity is transformed into a special charitable memorabilia collection titled “Le Petit Prince” or “The Little Prince”, inspired by the world’s classic literature that has won people’s hearts for more than 80 years. For this special occasion, the Ramathibodi Foundation has put the beloved “Little Prince” character into a wide variety of charitable memorabilia items so that everyone can be part of the stream of love, mercy and sustainable giving.
“Little Prince” and his “happiness of giving…never ends” mission by the Ramathibodi Foundation
The “Little Prince” charitable memorabilia collection is inspired by the philosophy and lovely illustration from “The Little Prince”, French classic novella written and illustrated by Antoine de Saint-Exupery which has become the favorite among readers around the world. All pieces in these special memorabilia collection feature carefully crafted designs with The Little Prince’s signature drawings including The Little Prince in various postures, The Rose, Stars, The Fox and The Plane – all in the warm colors such as blue, cream, mint green and navy blue. Besides all-time favorites such as T-shirts, hats, bags and umbrellas, new items are cushions, fabric keychains, sunshades, and – for the first time ever –breastfeeding covers. These special items not only serve as beautifully-designed and meaningful collectables which can actually be used in daily life but they can also represent good wishes as proceeds from the sales will help with the purchase of medical equipment and impoverished patients.

Punsiree Kunakornpaiboonsiri, managing director of the Ramathibodi Foundation, said “We are extremely delighted to have been granted a copyright to incorporate “The Little Prince” into these new memorabilia collection. The Foundation aims to convey the message of love, mercy and generosity from the literature through items people can use in their daily lives, such as bags, T-shirts and other household pieces. They all come with symbolic patterns and encouraging words from The Little Prince. We want every piece to serve not just as a collectible or a functional item but also a reminder to the beauty of giving which is represented through the Foundation’s core concept “the happiness of giving…never ends”. All proceeds from The Little Prince fans and the kind-hearted will go to help impoverished patients and to support various healthcare projects that have been initiated to truly help the public.”
Furthermore, the Ramathibodi Foundation is honored to have Thai authors Supoj Lokunsombat and Arunee Chuboonraj who share their passion towards “The Little Prince” which reflects the bond, friendship, positive perceptions towards the world and a quest for the meaning of life with “giving” as an underlying message in all kinds of relationships.
Supoj Lokunsombat is an independent writer and founder of a project to translate The Little Prince into various Thai dialects. Also, collector of The Little Prince books, he said although The Little Prince might look like a children’s book on the surface. But deep down, it comes with profound thoughts and philosophy that Antoine de Saint-Exupery expressed from his real-life experiences about love, friendship and perception towards the world. The real charm of this book is that it does not offer a one-size-fits-all answer but rather leaves questions for readers to ponder and translate which can be different according to readers’ ages and experiences. Therefore, the book always gives new insights once readers pick it up again at different ages.
With his passion for The Little Prince book collection, he has in his possession 400 The Little Prince books in 300 languages. He further develops his passion and turns it into “generosity” by initiating a project to translate The Little Prince into Thai dialects. He is well aware that the happiness of “receiving” becomes even more meaningful when “giving”. He invites everyone to support the Ramathibodi Foundation’s The Little Prince collection which not only adds to people’s favorite collection but also a chance to help impoverished patients. Supoj’s favorite item is an “umbrella” – comparable to a wind shade The Little Prince uses as a protector for The Rose. It represents love which requires attention and protection.
Arunee Chuboonraj is an author whose passion for The Little Prince started as a university student when she was impressed by the French version as well as the illustration. For her, The Little Prince is open for various interpretations which differ according to readers’ ages. It opens doors to a quest towards a deep meaning on people, relationships, friendship and death. Such passion encouraged her to collect The Little Prince books in different languages, starting as a gift from a friend, travel memorabilia until now the book has become something that maintains and strengthens friendship and relationships with her friends who always buy The Little Prince from their trips elsewhere.
Arunee’s favorite item from “The Little Prince” collection is a pillow because it can be used and seen everyday while giving the sense of warmth just like hugging The Little Prince.
