Throughout March, April and May, guests can experience the fresh and fragrant flavors of Khao Chae, an elegant dish of chilled rice with classic condiments. Literally meaning “soaked rice”, this seasonal specialty originated in the Mon Kingdom, before it was adopted and enhanced by the Royal Thai court during the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910).

The Khao Chae set menu at The Siam Tea Room starts with an enticing appetizer of snowy santol shaved ice with dried pork & bitter orange. This is followed by the traditional feast, which complements the chilled jasmine rice with a wide range of accompaniments such as deep-fried marinated shrimp paste ball, deep-fried stuffed pepper with minced pork & shrimp, fried stuffed shallot with fish, sweet shredded pork, sweet shredded beef, sweet shredded fish, deep-fried marinated minced pork with salted tiger fish, deep-fried butterfly pea stuffed with pork & shrimp, stir-fried sweet pickled turnip, deep-fried salted egg, and fresh mixed vegetables.
