​2020 marks the 30th anniversary of ASICS' iconic GEL-LYTE™ III silhouette. To celebrate, ASICS SportStyle has developed the GEL-LYTE™ XXX, a sneaker that combines design elements of the GEL LYTE™ III model, originally designed by Shigeyuki Mitsui, with a futuristic design and mixed material approach.
 
ASICS has a philosophy of design that takes into account tried and tested measures of functionality and combines that with evolutionary foresight. The designer of the GEL-LYTE™ XXX sneaker, Ryota Kitami, has incorporated upper elements from Mitsui’s original model and modernized it with mixed materials and a more contemporary aesthetic. This makes the GEL-LYTE™ XXX sneaker special because it embodies ASICS’s past whilst connecting it to the present.
 
Kitami, thinking back at the design process of the GEL-LYTE™ XXX shoe, explains, “I talked directly to Mitsui-san, and learned that each one of the shoe parts had its own story, and about his belief in designing the shoe. I started by understanding all the construction of each of the parts of GEL-LYTE™ III model, and I tried to develop Mitsui-san’s belief into a present form”.

First seen during the Balenciaga Summer 20 fashion show, the BALENCIAGA GHOST BAG is so named for its relative lack of branding. Like the uniform-inspired garments of the current collection, the Ghost Bag is designed to be practical and formal as opposed to standing out.
 
An embossed logo is barely detectable on the bag’s front, and another is hidden, on an invisible clasp beneath a flap with a slightly curved edge.
 
The Ghost Bag’s strap is punctured with holes, as it references and functions like a classic adjustable belt. Its slack is held in place by a single belt loop. A uniquely designed metal buckle and metal-edged tip correspond to individual colors and materials. ​

The Queen of pop punk Debbie Harry publishes her memoirs; Marlborough Contemporary stages an exhibition of works from the private collection of Holly Solomon. Looks like it’s time for a reappraisal of the contribution of women to the febrile New York art-cum-club scene in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
 
Debbie Harry talks about the difficulties of being a womanly woman in the rock world. ‘To be an artistic, assertive woman in girl drag, not boy drag was then an act of transgression’, she says. Holly Solomon was the glamorous, courageous collector and gallerist who was ahead of the curve in supporting some of the 20th century’s leading artists -among them Nam June Paik, Robert Mapplethorpe and William Wegman -and in particular women artists such as Laurie Anderson and Mary Heilmann. And she often wore Max Mara.
 
Max Mara Pre-Fall 2020 imagines a vernissage at a downtown gallery sometime in the seventies. The throng is peppered with famous names; all the above, plus Andy Warhol and his entourage, Trisha Brown, Lydia Lunch and Bianca Jagger. It’s a melting pot of style that serves up a tougher kind of femininity just right for the gritty city. The Max Mara’s iconic camel black and white is re- energized with shots of pop-neon colour. The ruffle is recast in a central role. Shedding its romantic associations, it delineates the collar or cuff of a sharply tailored jacket, a sassy strict pencil skirt or a voluminous taffeta gown. The trench coat gets a feminine makeover too, with a dramatic balloon shaped sleeve and a trapezoid silhouette. Necklaces, rings and earrings share the collection’s arty overtones. Jagged shards in plexi are worked together with gold and silver plate.
 
Holly Solomon’s erstwhile protege, William Wegman photographed his Weimaraner in Max Mara’s iconic 101801 back in 2001 to mark the brand’s fiftieth anniversary. That image adorns the t-shirt that’s the key to the collection’s street-smart cool.

Like a seasoned captain who guides his ship onto the open seas, whilst following an ever- steady course, the Sportmax Pre-Fall 2020 collection explores the utmost freedom that comes from impeccable tailoring. The protagonists of this season are the ensembles that rewrite the tailleur, which has always been at the core of Sportmax, with a contemporary spirit. This time the suit is updated with various knits and quirky details like eco-leather inserts for the jacket combos while at the same time, accomplishes a new sense of balance between a three-quarter vest with a pair of slacks.
 
Then comes the trench, or the perfect fil rouge that ties every collection together, and that is at the very core of the brand’s DNA. Various versions that run the gamut from leather to mini, from three quarter sleeve to sleeveless - this classic never ceases to evolve. Sophisticated blouses are paired with trousers or ultra clean denim skirts. The clothes are animated by smooth-to-ornate surfaces, and the fluidity of silk is finished with refined, ribbed knits.
 
Among the accessories, the Corto Maltese hat, is the hallmark of a collection salutes the adventures of the far seas. The glasses offer a futuristic, gritty touch, while silver footwear infuses this Fall Winter season with a dose of levity.

The historic building is considered the heart and soul of the brand; it housed Karl Lagerfeld’s office and studio, where he created countless collections throughout his illustrious career.
 
The campaign features acclaimed model Mariacarla Boscono, who was a longtime friend and muse of Karl Lagerfeld. The two first met in the early 1990s and developed a close friendship over the years. “Shooting this campaign is emotional for me, as I was very close to Karl,” says Boscono. “I’ve done many shoots with him over the years, and we always laughed a lot. I have all those memories imprinted in my brain. I hope this campaign is a beautiful tribute to him, because everything I do now is with him in my mind.”

It’s finally here! CASIO G-SHOCK unveils three rare absolute master timepieces for 2020

The wait is over. Casio Computer Co., Ltd announced the release of its three new master shock-resistant timepieces for 2020, featuring: MRG-B2000SH, MTG-B1000VL, and GMW-B5000CS. 
Kicking off in grand style with the release of G-SHOCK’s newest addition to the flagship MR-G Series, featuring MRG-B2000SH that is inspired by Shougeki-Maru, an original kabuto (helmet) worn by Japanese samurais on battle that symbolizes their strong convictions and toughness.
 
The watch reflects ultimate craftsmanship that is synonymous with the MR-G serie’s pursuit of excellence, featuring touches by two master ‘artists’ in their own rights. Each surface of the bezel was hand carved with the image of a dragon climbing to the heavens by Masao Kobayashi, a metalsmith highly skilled in the technique of chasing. The aged feel was reproduced by using special dies based on the sand dies by casting artisan Masanao Kikuchi. Additionally, the bezel and band are finished with layers of brown and blue ion plating (IP), to create the rugged look of rusted steel and the look of the navy-blue overlaying plates of amor bound together with navy blue string, used respectively in the kabuto.
 
In terms of functions, the MRG-B2000SH pairs with a smartphone using Bluetooth® and receives radio wave time-calibration signals, automatically correcting the time upon arriving in a different time zone without having to operate the buttons. The watch delivers both advanced technology and master craftsmanship, making it a truly special collectors’ timepiece. 
 
Only 400 of these watches will be available worldwide, with its official premiere in Thailand in August 2020.
