Siam Center: The ‘Ideaopolis’ of creativity and imagination, and the center of innovative thinking, design, art, fashion, technology and lifestyle is welcoming a new retail experience overflowing with quality design work and imagination, all infused into exclusive items worth owning or given as gifts — at the newly launched Absolute Thai Souvenir Pop Up Shop. The new shop is set to house favorite souvenir goods among local and international shoppers, and signature products created from special collaborations between Thai brands and international designers, which feature exclusive design that have never been seen anywhere else — from today until November 17, 2019, at Atrium 1, G Floor, Siam Center: The ‘Ideaopolis’. Siam Piwat Retail Holding’s Group Senior Vice President and Retail Business Development Parisa Chatnilbhandu spoke about the launch, “Siam Center has maintained its reputation as the hub of fashion, art, technology, and lifestyle. It has delivered exclusive products and services in the ‘absolute Siam’ style and goods that are beloved by tourists and locals, thanks to their unique design and distinct features. This is especially true for Absolute Siam Store which has been well received by the public. For the convenience of the visitors and shoppers alike, we’ve decided to launch the new Absolute Thai Souvenir Pop Up Shop at Atrium 1, G Floor, where it brings together an incredible list of souvenirs and exclusively design-oriented products, inspired by the Absolute Siam concept. All the products in the new shop have not been seen anywhere before. We are proud to collaborate with highly revered Thai brands to co-create various lifestyle goods including Hatakabb (the legendary herbal cough drop brand) and the Snake Brand (the iconic maker of the prickly heat cooling powder). The special collection will feature the collaboration between Hatakabb and Greyhound, while the Snake Brand is teaming up with SPUN, from the renowned illustrator Spun Inthawong.” Hatakabb, Thailand’s legendary cough drop brand, was founded more than 100 years ago by Mr. Jui-Sai Sae-Sim, an immigrant from China. With respectable knowledge in Chinese herbal medicine and heart rate detection, he started formulating herbal medicine for personal and family use. His products found commercial success as he finally trademarked his medicines under Hatakabb brand (5 centipedes) with his signature portrait shot centered on the packaging. Today, the Chinese herb-based medicines are widely consumed by Thai and international tourists, especially among Chinese tourists. For this special event, Hatakabb brand is working with Greyhound to create a brand-new collection of goods where its logo of 5 centipedes are given a modern makeover by emboldening and replicate the print across daily lifestyle wear — to reflect Hatakabb’s significance as Thailand’s staple household brand. The signature centipede prints are placed on t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts, hats, and tote bags. The biggest challenge for this collaboration is extracting the prints onto the Hawaiian shirts because it requires a precise die-cutting technique to make the patterns look traditional yet classic, by combining the signature red, white, and navy-blue colors. Another fun part of the design is replicating the centipede illustration across the bucket hat — as a way to celebrate pop culture. |
From one icon to another, the Snake Brand is known for being Thailand’s first cooling powder producer. Founded by Dr. Thomas Hays and Peter Gavin ,then taken over by Dr. Luan Vongvanij whom became the official distributor of the brand. Over the years, more products were developed and one of those was the iconic cooling powder; the even more impressive fact about the powder was that it was created by a Thai innovator. Today, it has become one of the most instantly recognizable products, and exported to over 16 countries. Celebrating the launch of Absolute Thai Souvenir Pop Up Store, the Snake Brand is collaborating with SPUN, to reflect on the tight bond between the famous powder brand and its users, represented by the rose which is the universal symbol of love, and a heart to intensify the visual representation. The Snake Brand’s signature colors which are red, green and white are set to be the primary color tone of the collection. The challenge of this collaborative effort is blending in SPUN’s surreal elements with the Snake Brand’s iconic style. SPUN is determined to bring out the beauty from the rose to align with the concept, without compromising its elements, and retaining SPUN’s signature lines and patterns. Siam Piwat’s Senior Vice President continued, “The new pop up shop, in addition to the special products from the exclusive collaborations, houses unique design-centric products in the Absolute Siam style including collaborated fashion items, spa products, food, and souvenirs. Some of the souvenirs from Absolute Siam House Brand are intricately crafted by Thai designers, exhibiting a balance of Thai and international characteristics, with distinct hints of graphics and illustration to represent pop culture — including keychains, scarves, glasses, and t-shirts. The products are expected to be well received by Thai and international shoppers. One of the brands, BANGKOK TALES, is ready to charm shoppers with ‘The Wealthy’ and ‘Blessing’ collections as auspicious words, in the form of captivating typography, are to be screened in vibrant Thai styles. |
Apart from the main-feature collaborations, DAROON is contributing to the cool groove with its Thai streetwear collection ‘Siamese Matchbox’, inspired by classic matchbox which depicts the image of the Naga serpent. DAROON’s take on the collection is a modern interpretation of the basic yet essential household item, transforming its recognizable print onto messenger bags, canvas tote bags, bucket hats, oversized-and style t-shirts. Bagmaker KATTARA is known for flower-printed tote bags whose signature marks are color combination derived from Thailand’s classic metal tray and the signature drawing outlines.
