Story: A heritage of innovation
Foundation of the House in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot as a textile company with an ambition of « crossing borders ». When her husband François died in 1805, Madame Clicquot was 27 but she decided to take over the business. She was the first business woman in France!
As her nickname «La Grande Dame de la Champagne» described it she had a spirit of innovation and international conquest. She invented:
- The first vintage champagne in 1810
- The riddling table in 1816 to speed up the clarifying process
and improve the clarity of her wines. This revolutionary
innovation is still used today by all Champagne houses.
- The first blended rosé in 1818.
