IGNIV Bangkok reveals Patricia Urquiola as the new dining destination’s interior designer, the acclaimed Spanish interior designer’s fourth IGNIV restaurant project for renowned Chef Andreas Caminada. Located within The St. Regis Bangkok, the 150-square-meter space welcomes 55 guests in a refined and contemporary environment for the restaurant’s sharing-style fine dining experience.

IGNIV means ‘nest’ in Chef Andreas’s mother tongue Romansh, and for the Bangkok restaurant Patricia Urquiola wanted to reproduce the typical embracing atmosphere of IGNIV by conveying the idea of a warm and intimate cocoon where to dine in absolute intimacy.  Nevertheless, the fine-dining location also communicates details of Asian culture in a subtle and never predictable way.

Central in the work of Urquiola is the will to transmit the sense of place in a deep and emotional way: through the use of local materials and furnishing, every project is unique and locally customized. For IGNIV Bangkok, the architect’s research favors Thai wood and handcrafted fabrics from the Thai textile tradition. Also, elements of styling become essential: vases and bronze furnishing accessories are chosen to give a deep connection to Thai culture. The furniture is a savvy combination of custom designed pieces and a selection from Moroso catalogue.

Throughout the restaurant, bold and soft colors come together in a savvy balance of shades, magnified by Bangkok’s light. Coming inside IGNIV, a great emphasis is given to the entrance. Leaving the hotel’s lobby behind, guests go through a portal decorated with a sound-absorbing fabric boiserie, a detail that becomes a style leitmotiv, accompanying them throughout the whole location. The pattern expresses a refined play of volumes in a light green shade which emphasizes once more the bond to the Thai blooming nature. Fluid volumes are repeated also on the chandeliers to enhance IGNIV embracing atmosphere, gently making the environment harmonious and intimate.

The bar area is designed to allow guests to dine at the counter, discreetly illuminated by the light of custom suspended lamps. Continuing in the dining area, smoothly divided into two spaces, the atmosphere becomes even more intimate but informal and familiar. Following IGNIV aesthetics, guests can dine inside comfortable lounge islands thanks to the use of sofas and armchairs. The cozy seats refer to the idea of warmth and intimacy expresses by 'IGNIV' concept, interpreted with respect for local culture, in a contemporary key.

IGNIV's concept is also expressed iconographically through important details. The two spectacular brass mesh chandeliers remind of cages and cushions’ decorative pattern is a clear reference to birds and nature.

“Working with Andreas Caminada in these years, I always wanted to translate into the interiors the same feeling of a warm nest, a refuge for an intimate dinner that means more than that. It is a gift to yourself, a special retreat. Following this philosophy, IGNIV Bangkok interior architecture is a cocoon, in which colors and light play gently with the volumes to give a feeling of coziness,” comments Patricia Urquiola.
