Set in an elegant white heritage house at The Standard, just steps from the golden sand and sparkling sea, this brand-new beach bar and Thai izakaya sets the stage for social interaction
The Standard, Hua Hin’s newest resort where chic beach vibes meet mid-century design, has unveiled Praça, an upbeat beachside bar and an “Izakaya” menu that puts a contemporary twist on Thai cuisine and brings a new sense of style and sophistication to the vibrant local social scene.
Praça means “meeting place” in Portuguese and this pure white heritage house, with its expansive veranda, indoor dining space and idyllic alfresco deck, provides the perfect setting to sit back, catch up with friends, make new connections, or simply unwind whilst gazing out across the shimmering sea.
Inspired by the beach clubs of the Mediterranean, Praça is a place where upmarket elegance blends seamlessly with a casual, carefree ambiance. Guests can stroll barefoot from the sand to the shady terrace, sip cool cocktails and savor sublime Thai bites, including modern tapas plates and reinvented classics. Then as the sun sets, Praça comes alive as live DJs spin house tunes and like-minded partygoers mingle together freely under the stars.
Chef Prasertchai “Jacky” Trongvanichnam, a former Iron Chef champion who has worked at top hotels and restaurants in Thailand and the USA, has imagined an innovative menu that feels fresh and playful while honoring the traditions of Thai street food, including tempting shared dishes, flame-grilled meats, comforting rice and noodle bowls and tempting Thai desserts.
Taking a break from the beach, guests can savor light bites such as Krapao Tacos and Lobster Bao, or settle in for a comforting bowl of Ramen Tom Yam Goong or Khao Pad Nuea Yang (garlic fried rice with smoked beef brisket). Couples and friends can share taste sensations like Esan Tuna (larb tuna with black rice crackers), Moo Krob Baan Nok (country-style crispy pork belly), or sizzling plates of grilled squid, pork, prawn or wagyu beef skewers with heavenly homemade sauces. Traditional sweets include Bua Loy (Praça’s signature dumplings in coconut broth) and Khao Neaw Mamuang (mango sticky rice). Whatever you’re craving, this highly creative yet reassuringly familiar menu will enliven every occasion.
Equally inventive, the cocktail menu embraces the spirit of Thailand by infusing premium ingredients with local flavor and flair. Concoctions such as Holy Basil! (gin, pineapple, holy basil, betel leaf, galangal, lemon), Born to Rum (white rum, banana, coconut milk, makrut leaf, lime juice) and No More Mr. Rice Guy (Irish whiskey, roasted rice, lemongrass) inspire a deep connection with the lush landscapes and fresh produce of Hua Hin. Alternatively, a selection of fine wines, craft beers and tropical juices promise perfect refreshment throughout the day or night.
“Praça is the new place to be and be seen in Hua Hin. At The Standard, we are committed to showcasing local art and culture in all its forms, including social gastronomy and mixology. We envisaged a space that brings the entire community – guests, beachgoers and local residents – together in an easygoing yet upbeat atmosphere. Just as the light over Hua Hin Beach shifts throughout the day, so Praça’s personality evolves as afternoon relaxation makes way for the buzz of sunset cocktails, exciting epicurean experiences and exhilarating after-dark parties. This is a venue that will stimulate the senses and broaden the horizons,” said Marc Sittl, the resort’s General Manager.
Praça is open daily from 16.00 to 23.00 hrs. For more information, please CLICK HERE.
