Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel proudly presents “Khao Chae Suvarnabhumi” a unique classic summer treat from Suvarnabhumi Golden Land. Available just only once a year throughout April- 2023 at Sala Thai restaurant.
“Khao Chae Suvarnabhumi” this unique summer treat created by our expert chef of Thai Kitchen, who has been trained to make Khao Chae with original recipe from ML Bua Kitiyakara, Royal Thai Kitchen. Our Thai Kitchen team created 9 side dishes according to the auspicious numbers and decorated them with gold leaves on these side dishes featuring its auspiciousness and reflecting the meaning of “Suvarnabhumi” - "Land of Gold". “Khao Chae Suvarnabhumi”, in addition to being a summer treat menu, it is also considered as a valuable offering for Songkran Festival that would make anyone delightful when both giving and receiving.
Khao Chae is exiguous as it is the most time and effort needed food in Thai cuisine. Our chef brings jasmine rice to slightly boil then carefully polishes the half-cooked rice until shiny, then steams again before soaking in the cold, candle smoke and flower scented water. Another example, Kapi Thod, deep-fried shrimp paste balls, the main highlight of Khao Chae, requires 8 hours to cook from scratch. Spending a lot of time to prepare and cook 9 different the side dishes to provide you a memorable Khao Chae experience.

For the best Khao Chae Suvarnabhumi dining experience, it is recommended to start with eating the most savoury side dish like Kapi Thod first, chew to taste. Then follow by having soaked rice and a taste of the scented water again to absorb the aroma and taste. Then continue with sweet side dishes such as Pla Chon Waan Pad Hang , sweetened snakehead fish and other savoury dishes. Simply you can have little bit of each side dish, chew a bit and follow by a spoonful of the icy rice and nibble with fresh vegetables, such as cucumber, wild ginger, chilies or spring onions, in between side dishes to refresh your palate and to balance. Please try not to put the side dishes into the rice bowl or in the same spoon with Khao Chae, as this will cause the oiliness and the taste from various ingredients mixed into the bowl and makes the scented water smell fishy or not as fragrant as it should be.
