“Animal in Art” explores humanity’s enduring connection with animals through an exceptional selection of historical, modern, and contemporary works. The exhibition features nearly 100 pieces from European private collections, crafted from diverse materials including wood, bronze, crystal, clay, ceramic, and more—each revealing the profound role animals have played in art across cultures and eras.Among the highlights are rare and museum-level pieces, including:
- A 4,000-year-old sculpture from an Ancient Egyptian tomb, representing Africa’s artistic heritage.
- A 6,000-year-old Peruvian ceramic bottle and traditional textile, offering a glimpse into early American civilizations.
- A rare object from Oceania, an exceptional survival given the region’s challenging climate and humidity.
- Modern and contemporary masterpieces, including etchings by Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, prints by Marc Chagall, and original paintings by Raoul Dufy.
- A sculpture by 20th-century master Diego Giacometti, expanding the exhibition’s rich modern scope.
- And for the first time, the exhibition welcomes celebrated contemporary artists Mr. Joe, Mr. Sang and Mr. Alonggot from Thailand and Mr. Aatoth from Hungary, who have created new works specifically for this event.
This remarkable showcase not only illustrates artistic evolution but also celebrates the shared fascination for animals that has connected civilizations for tens of thousands of years. From prehistoric cave paintings to medieval bestiaries, from Asian ink traditions to Amazonian pottery, from European modernism to today’s contemporary visions, the exhibition reveals a universal theme: animals have long inspired artists, shaped myths, and symbolized spiritual, cultural, and emotional meaning.
“This exhibition means a great deal to me. I finally found the right moment and the right place to bring it to life thanks to the wonderful relationship I have with Sammy Carolus. Artists throughout history have drawn inspiration from the animals around them, yet I’m not sure we ever truly thanked them. Through this exhibition, I hope we do.” He continued, “From ancient civilizations to today’s contemporary creators, the way different cultures portray animals reveals surprising connections, remarkable similarities, and a deeply shared humanity.
My hope is that visitors will feel the same fascination and affection I have for both ancient traditions and modern artistic expression.”
Sammy Carolus, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, expressed his appreciation for this significant collaboration:
“We are honored to host Ambassador Bohbot’s most ambitious exhibition to date. His dedication to bringing together such a vast and meaningful collection from around the world aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting cultural dialogue and offering enriching experiences to our guests. ‘Animal in Art’ is a testament to the power of global art, and we are proud to be its home.”
