Prangtip Anantavipat, founder and president of KHUN Foundation together with PhD Manit Nithitanakul, Assistant Professor from the Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University (“Ppc”), also join the event to invite Phuwin fanclub to participate in the “Young Guardian of the Environment Awareness Activity”.
Phuwin and all of his fans can act as “Young Guardian of the Environment”, as their actions can have a huge impact on the environment. Today, we are beginning to comprehend the effect of the change in the climate and global warming.
A talented graduate, Phuwin Tangsakyuen said the young generation should be concerned because we will inherit these problems, and the environmental damage will affect our health, ecosystems, and economies. Our generation has the power to influence change, and by acting now, we can create a sustainable world for the future. Waste separation allows us to make use of the waste more efficiently. Many types of waste can be recycled as an alternative raw material for production, such as metal, glass, and plastic. For example, if you recycle a kilogram of plastic, you can help reduce emissions of approx. 2.2 kg of CO2 equivalent by replacing the need for 1 kg of virgin plastic.
Prangtip Anantavipat, president of KHUN Foundation said waste separation helps us to improve waste management and allows us to easily reclaim them as our valuable resources. Waste separation reduced the burden of landfills and made it easier to make more efficient use of waste. Many types of waste can be recycled and used again and again repeatedly as resources; others can be used as an alternative source of energy. This is far more efficient than when it ends up in landfills, and by simply separating your wastes, it also makes them less contaminated and will require less effort to clean. And by doing this, we in turn help to reduce the emission of CO2 into the environment.
PhD Manit Nithitanakul from Ppc, said it is important that we work together to tackle the current environmental issues. We provide academic support and solutions to government as well as many related private sectors. At Ppc, we carried out research on many issues related to the environment, such as energy and alternative energy sources, more efficient use of catalysts, polymers from bio and bio-based materials, EV batteries, innovative use of waste, and more efficient use of waste and waste recovery.
Ppc works closely with hospitals to recover waste from these hospitals to use as alternative raw materials. We also recover copper from printed circuit board waste and convert it into nanocopper colloidal solution for many applications, such as anti-bacterial and anti-virus coating. These studies enable us to recover many important resources from waste and help to reduce our impact on the environment.
According to Prangtip Anantavipat, president of KHUN Foundation, one of the most misunderstood aspects is that many people believe that waste management is solely the government’s, big companies', or waste management companies’ responsibility. In reality, every individual’s actions contribute to the problem and the solution. Young people can help clarify this by educating their friends and families on how personal habits, like reducing, reusing, and recycling, make a significant difference. It's about changing the mindset that even small efforts can collectively lead to major changes. Everybody plays or can play a crucial role in saving the environment by themselves. If everybody starts to separate wastes and place them into the “right” containers. This will have a very significant impact on the environment. This meant that there will be less effort required for waste management. Less waste or none will go to landfills; more waste will be used in a more efficient way, such as recycling, alternative energy, and so on. And this meant that we would impart less burden on the environment. Everybody can play an important role as “Guardian of the Environment” by starting with their simple, small but important effort of waste separation.
Phuwin Tangsakyuen said education is key to building awareness because it informs people about the environmental impacts of waste and equips them with tools to manage it responsibly, such as waste separation. Young people can help improve this by advocating for more environmental topics in school curricula and engaging their communities in hands, on learning activities like waste separation, recycling workshops, or waste audits. Peer education is also powerful, young people teaching other young people about waste management and waste separation and their impact on the environment can create a strong, informed movement that takes action together.
KHUN Foundation, Ppc and myself have been working together for some time to raise awareness regarding many environmental issues, especially regarding waste and waste management. Khun Prangtip of KHUN Foundation believes that education, especially at a very young age, can help to improve the children’s awareness and equip them with the right attitude toward environmental issues. Khun Prangtip works with schools and young children thru innovative media such as puppets and clips, animations, storybook with QR Code to promote waste separation.
While KHUN Foundation raise awareness for young children, for adults, Ppc is a postgraduate college that works very closely with industries, especially the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Ppc helps the public and private sectors by providing knowledge and solutions regarding the current environmental issue. Ppc works closely with KHUN Foundation to provide academic support, knowledge, and some innovative solutions regarding waste issues (especially plastic waste) in Thailand.
KHUN Foundation has just been granted funds from Thai Media Fund to produce new storybook with QR Code and 6 short animations under the project “Festival Waste Management”, hopefully these tools will be ready to promote waste separation for children and adults in festivals starting from Songkran next year.
Phuwin also said “this year we have experienced a very hot summer, and right now there are typhoons, rain, and flooding, serious problem for Chiangrai and many provinces. These are believed to be related to humans’ actions.
Phuwin made his debut at the age of eleven in television drama. He appeared in his first television drama Sunshine My Friend in year 2014. Since then, he went on to play the younger characters of the lead roles in television dramas. From 2019-2021, he was rising popularity while from year 2022 til present, it is a "Breakthrough".
Today, at my Graduation Day Celebration Event organized by “Phuwin Official Fans”, I am glad P’ Jiew, Khun Prangtip of KHUN Foundation join us to convey the very vital message and build awareness that our simple efforts such as waste management and waste separation can go a long way to help the environment. Since there are so many young people in today's event, the “Young Guardian of the Environment Awareness Activity” will hopefully have a strong impact on these young and energetic individuals, and hopefully they will help us to spread the message and play a crucial role as Guardians of the Environment.
