to provide meals to disadvantaged people and reduce food waste
Designated by the United Nations, World Food Day falls annually on October 16 with the long-term goal of eradicating global hunger. Through its “Waste Less, Taste More” campaign, Marriott is fully committed to reducing food waste by 50% through activities such as informative buffet signage, upcycled ingredients, zero waste challenges and more, to encourage mindful consumption and culinary creativity. Each year, the teams at Marriott’s hotels and resorts in Thailand join forces with charitable partners, including Scholars of Sustenance Foundation (SOS Thailand), to provide meals to underprivileged people in their local communities, and work towards achieving a cleaner, greener planet.
“At Marriott, we are fully committed to making a positive impact everywhere we operate. Sadly, hunger and malnutrition remain an issue in many parts of the world, including some disadvantaged communities in Thailand. By working closely with our excellent local partners, including SOS Thailand, we can do our part alleviating hunger, while also working towards our goal of eliminating food waste. I would like to thank all our associates for their hard work, passion and commitment to improving the lives of local people,” says Brad Edman, Market Vice President – Thailand, Cambodia & Myanmar.
The spirit of CSR extended all across the country, as hotels and resorts in a wide range of destinations marked World Food Day 2025. In Hua Hin, team members from Marriott’s three resorts worked alongside SOS Thailand to create 200 delicious and nutritious meals for children in the community, and a DIY muffin making activity helped local kids to learn a fun new skill. And on Thailand’s eastern seaboard, two properties – Pattaya Marriott Resort and Spa and Renaissance Pattaya Resort & Spa – partnered with SOS Thailand to prepare approximately 400 boxed meals using donated surplus food, while the team at Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa donated 100 meals to Camillian Social Center Rayong, which supports people living with HIV and AIDS.
In Phuket and Phang Nga, Marriott’s hotels and resorts embarked on a series of initiatives designed to nourish its communities. On October 10, the teams from 15 Marriott’s properties in Phuket and Khao Lak created more than 5,000 meal boxes at a major event hosted by Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, which were then distributed by SOS Thailand. In addition, the “From Our Kitchens to Theirs” campaign saw hotels, resorts and associates donate their nearly-new kitchen utensils to local people, under the mantra “sharing tools, spreading hope.”
Marriott’s long-term collaboration with SOS Thailand was recently expanded to cover Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. In the first eight months of the year, 29 Marriott hotels and resorts in Thailand (19 in Bangkok, seven in Phuket, two in Hua Hin, and one in Chiang Mai) have contributed a total of 14,953kg of high-quality ingredients to SOS Thailand, which used them to prepare more than 62,800 meals for recipients. By donating its excess produce, Marriott is also actively reducing its food waste, which has a positive impact on CO2 emissions.
