Sustainability has become a key focus for organizations globally, with the business sector increasingly prioritizing this aspect. In the environmental dimension, challenges have driven businesses, including food and beverage manufacturers, to intensify their attention to sustainability, as these challenges impact livelihoods and contribute to the ongoing depletion of natural resources. At the same time, consumers are becoming increasingly aware and conscious of sustainability. A 2022 survey by the Kasikorn Research Center indicated that 71.4% of consumers are now inclined to choose environmentally friendly products in the food and beverage category. The most pressing environmental challenges impacting consumers' daily lives include pollution – such as wastewater, PM 2.5, and improper waste management. As a result, many consumers have begun adjusting their daily habits, by reducing or avoiding single-use packaging and favoring products made from biodegradable materials[1]. Consequently, the business sector must adapt and adopt clearer and more actionable sustainability practices.

Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is committed to its consumers and strives to be a sustainable organization across social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Sustainability is at the heart of the company’s “Must Win Battle” strategy, which emphasizes achieving business growth while caring for society and the environment. This approach reflects the company’s core value of “Growing for Good” and aligns with its vision of becoming “the Most Beloved Beverage Company in Thailand with True Gemba Centricity.

1.Water Sustainability: Suntory PepsiCo Thailand recognizes that water is a precious natural resource for business operations. The company is dedicated to efficient water management, utilizing advanced technology to minimize water loss at every stage of the production process—from cleaning and cooling to mixing and packaging. This approach has enabled the company to use less than 1.4 liters of water to produce 1 liter of beverage, achieving one of the lowest water loss rates in the beverage industry.

Additionally, Suntory PepsiCo Thailand has implemented a water leakage detection system and a high-efficiency wastewater treatment system, allowing over 80% of water to be reused for non-food-contact processes. Beyond its operational efficiency, the company also focuses on education and conservation efforts. Through its Mizuiku program, ongoing since 2019, the company educates youth on the importance of water and conservation. It also actively engages in watershed forest conservation, such as building check dams, planting vetiver grass, and restoring the forest ecosystem to foster positive change and promote water conservation in local communities. Furthermore, its annual “Good People & Water” initiative empowers employees to turn knowledge into action, contributing to the sustainable conservation of water resources for future generations.

2.Packaging Sustainability: Suntory PepsiCo Thailand is advancing sustainable packaging management by choosing eco-friendly materials and designing packaging that is easy to recycle. The company uses clear, colorless PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic bottles for all its beverages due to their cleanliness, safety, lightweight, strength, and, most importantly, 100% recyclability. In collaboration with suppliers, it has also developed lightweight PET bottles, which reduce the amount of new plastic used in production, representing an innovation aimed at conserving natural resources. Furthermore, the company has removed color printing from bottle caps to reduce chemical use in cleaning and simplify recycling process. A significant milestone is the introduction of bottles made from 100% recycled plastic, starting with Pepsi products in 550 ml and 1,450 ml sizes, as well as all flavors of TEA+ ready-to-drink tea. The efforts have enabled the company to significantly reduce the use of new plastic (Virgin PET) by over 5,800 tons2. The company also actively educates the public on proper waste segregation and promotes the collection for recycling of used PET bottles into new ones, adhering to the “Bottle-to-Bottle Recycling” approach. This effort maximizes the use of existing resources and strives for a circular economy.

3.GHG Reduction: Suntory PepsiCo Thailand is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout its production and transportation processes. This commitment involves a continual increase in renewable energy use, such as solar power at manufacturing sites and warehouses, as well as adaptation of green production innovations and the development of eco- friendly packaging. These efforts have contributed to a 9%3 reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from electricity consumption and direct combustion compared to the previous year. The company remains focused on further improving energy efficiency across all operations.

4.Social Contributions: Suntory PepsiCo Thailand has consistently supported Thai society, particularly during natural disasters like floods, droughts, and pandemics such as COVID-19. The company has initiated ongoing projects to assist affected communities and help them return to normal life as quickly as possible. Additionally, it actively promotes employee volunteerism through the “Helping Hands”, launched in 2018. This program channels employee-raised funds into various social contribution projects, including installing clean water filtration systems, providing school supplies, floor repairs, improving playgrounds, and building “Suntory PepsiCo” activity areas for schools and local communities.Suntory PepsiCo Thailand’s sustainability approach strives to harmonize business growth with a strong commitment to addressing consumer needs while caring for society and the environment. Moving towards     a sustainable future is not merely a choice but an essential journey towards building and bequeathing a sustainable world for future generations.
