Three of the city’s best Horse Riding Clubs in focus
BANGKOK’S not all cars, bikes, buses and endless concrete. There’s actually a surprising number of Horse Riding Clubs dotted around the city, each one offering something different for newcomers and seasoned riders alike. Of course, when looking for a club, it’s always important to take into account the welfare of the animals, the safety of the equipment, and the overall skills of the teachers and grooms. But if you don’t have time for all that, don’t worry. Simply head to one of the options listed below and you’ll find excellent stables, decent facilities, friendly staff, and the opportunity to ride to your heart’s content. |
Royal Horse Guard Riding Club
OWNED and operated by the Thai military, the Royal Horse Guard Riding Club is situated in a military installation right next to the Sanam Pao BTS station and has a vast array of horses on offer. ID is always required to enter the base for riding. The club caters for the absolute beginner right up to the best riders in the country, offering all levels of jumping and dressage riding. The trainers are all military men and limited English is spoken. You can ride here every day of the week (except Wednesdays) from 4pm-7pm. The Royal Horse Guard Club has fantastic facilities for riding along with a shop and small restaurant. Many competitions are held here throughout the year making it a nice place to visit on weekends – even if you aren’t riding.
The first three times you visit the club you can ride on a trial basis. After this you will then need to purchase a membership. Hourly prices for all horses start at a modest B450 per hour.
Facebook: Royal Horse Guard Riding Club (if you call the number on the Facebook page make sure you have a Thai speaker with you).

Phoenix Riding Academy By KP LOCATED on the southeastern side of the city off the Bangna Trad Highway at KM 10.5, Phoenix Riding Academy enjoys a picturesque setting away from the major highway and has a stable of approximately 40 horses. These range from large thoroughbreds right down to the cutest Shetland ponies, all housed in safe and secure stabling. The club can train novice riders, offers horses that can jump or ride dressage, and has a covered riding ring, ensuring you can continue to ride whatever the weather. If you are looking for a club that jumps, this is a good place to start – the club’s official jumping squad, The KP Riders, compete in competitions all over Thailand and regularly bring back medals. Horse rental ranges from B500 to 1,200 per hour. Discount is available for groups of five or more persons. Both Berkeley and Patana International Schools use Phoenix as a base for training riders. Horses United Club THIS new club is located in the north of the city, on Ngam Wong Wan Road, right on the Nonthaburi border. Catering for both top end riders and beginners, in both dressage and jumping, the club already has a host of top dressage horses entering competitions and is slowly making its way into the jumping and equitation circuit. The trainers at the club are highly qualified and the grooms masterful at keeping horses in top physical condition. The modern facilities are top notch too (this is the only club in the city with an air conditioned viewing platform from where you can watch riders training). Dressage horses start at B1,000 per hour and courses can be booked in a block of 10. The more courses purchased, the more free lessons included. Riding is available on demand. Students from ISB and Harrow International Schools ride here and there are special prices for group bookings. For more info contact Teddy 081 4810 023 Facebook: Horses United Club |
