Mӧvenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives is supporting 11-year-old dive enthusiast, Falak Anwar to realise her dream of becoming a dive instructor. Last Sunday, Falak completed her open water course, which is in a series of courses sponsored by the Dive Butler International and the resort team that will help her become a dive instructor in years to come.
As a minor, her parents are fully engaged and supportive for this project. Dive Butler International – the diving partner of Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives is providing all the guidance pertaining to this initiative.
Falak was chosen by the resort during World Children Day on 20th November 2019 at an extempore competition in Manadhu, Noonu Atoll where she had won the first prize and expressed her dream role in diving. Now she continues her journey supported and sponsored by Dive Butler International and the management of Mӧvenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives team.
Certain courses are age-specific, so it will be some years before she becomes an instructor, tells Vaibhav Garg, the resort’s Director of Talent & Culture. “We’re thrilled to be a part of her journey and that she has our full support and expert guidance from the dive professionals, and we’ll make sure she reaches the end of her journey,” he said.
“It has been an amazing experience to teach Falak as she is such bright student with great future as an instructor ahead and it is our pleasure from Dive Butler International to fully sponsor her courses all the way to the professional level in phases,” said Silvio Nishimura, Dive Center Manager - Dive Butler International.

Thrilled and excited about Falak’s exposure and learning, her mother remarks, “First of all I would like to thank the management of Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Resort Management & Dive Butler International along with support from UNICEF for this great opportunity for encouraging my daughter towards her endeavour. I am so impressed by the support and commitment from the resort and the dive centre team, specially her mentor Mr. Silvio Nishimura and everyone in his team. This all is possible because of the efforts from the Talent & Culture department of the resort. We wish to thank Mr. Vaibhav Garg and Ms. Grace Karijomedjo and their entire hardworking team. The hospitality we received from Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives was amazing and on behalf of my family we wish to thank all those who are involved in this project. I am looking forward to seeing more adventures in months to come,” said Mrs. Fathimath Farah mother of Falak Anwar.
She is a potential young advocate for marine conservation and a voice against marine pollution. This fits well with the work done on SDG Goal 14 – Life Below Water. UNICEF would help with the right guidance to prepare her to be such a young advocate. Thus far, the country does not have a young advocate working on SDG 14. Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives is also providing her with an avenue through its social media and potential regional networks to share her story and her concerns about pollution in an effort to influence other young people like herself to become part of a larger movement to protect the environment.
