Unprecedented opportunity for Thai design talents to shine on global design arena with free registration fee for the first 100 entries
The 2020 Golden Pin Design Award (GPDA), the most influential design award in the global Chinese-speaking market, are now opening for entries, inviting design talents from around the world, including Thailand, to flaunt their products and projects that cater to the world’s largest communities. Touted as a long-standing, globally acclaimed signifier of quality in design, GPDA is executed by the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI) and organized by the Industry Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan. The honorable award is accepting submissions from Thailand in two competitions - Golden Pin Design Award (GPDA) and Golden Pin Concept Design Award (GPCDA), with fee waiver offered for the first 100 entries.
Established in 1981, GPDA recognizes commercial products and projects entered by design teams and industry professionals into four categories - product design, communication design, spatial design, and integration design. Each year, through a rigorous and impartial judging process led by industry experts, hundreds of products and projects are selected to receive the coveted Design Mark certificate in recognition of outstanding design.
Designers of award-winning products and projects will have the opportunity to make sales online at Design Pin store and be included in the online exhibition on GPDA website, with a chance to showcase their works at Taiwan Design Museum, the world’s first specialized museum among all Chinese-speaking communities and is dedicated to showcasing creative design, as well as access to advisory and matchmaking services with interdisciplinary experts in order to deliver innovations, breakthroughs, or applications.
As the COVID-19 epidemic has extensively impacted the global economy since the early of 2020, with potential longer-term effects all aspects of people's lives for years to come, the issues of health, hygiene, and safety have become the focus of attention in recent product design trend. Many entries from Taiwan and China in GPDA this year are innovative products devised to cope with the pandemic, such as Brinouva UV LED Sterilize Vacuum Robot designed to kill germs simultaneously while cleaning the floor; YUOU Portable Ultraviolet Sterilizer used as a disinfection apparatus for home and travel; and Brinouva UV LED portable light clean, combining UVC LED sterilizer and an air purifier in one to disinfect the air surrounding at any time, any place.

A wide range of world-famous brands and design companies now join the competition each year, including Germany’s Zeiss Optics, Yamaha Motors Taiwan, Sharp Technologies, the BenQ Corporation, Beijing’s LKK Tech, and Nanjing’s Hanqingtang Design.

In keeping with global trends, the Golden Pin Design Award has been using its forums and awards ceremonies as a platform to call attention to social responsibility and environmental sustainability. The addition of this Special Annual Award further encourages independent designers and large corporations alike to employ design thinking in response to the challenges of our time. The 2020 Golden Pin Design Award will continue with this tradition and embrace eco-friendly and sustainable works created by designers and companies around the world.
The 2020 Golden Pin Design Award is now accepting submissions worldwide until Thursday, July 9. Works that have already been commercialized and sold on the market are eligible to enter and may be submitted by either the manufacturer or the design team.
Golden Pin Concept Design Award
For those who have not yet brought their designs to market, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award 2020 call for entries is now open. The 2020 Golden Pin Concept Design Award, offering grand prize award monies totaling NT$ 1.2 million for innovative design ideas, will also have its own Special Annual Award for the first time. Titled the “ConceptD Award,” it is set to be co-presented by the award organizers and Acer Inc. to honor designers with exceptional talent. Entries that pass the Golden Pin Concept Design Award’s Secondary Selection this year will be eligible to compete for this special award. The jury, comprising a group of design professionals handpicked by the award organizers and Acer Inc., will evaluate the eligible entries based on originality, commercial viability, presentation skills, incorporation of technology, and social/environmental impact.
