King Power welcomes the Chinese New Year by inviting everyone to explore beautiful illustrations under the concept THE BLESSING COMES HOME through six characters in the Rat Family, representing the Year of the Rat 2020 by world famous illustrator “Yoon” Phannapast Taychamaythakool. Her illustrations can be viewed at King Power Chinese New Year The Blessing Comes Home during January 23 - February 1. To bring happiness, good fortune and entertainment through beautiful art for the Chinese New Year, King Power presents The Rat Family illustrations to represent the Year of the Rat 2020, created by “Yoon” Phannapast Taychamaythakool, to reflect Chinese culture and celebrate the Chinese New Year with Chinese Thais under the concept THE BLESSING COMES HOME. The Rat Family gets together for the New Year at “THE GOLDEN MOUSE VILLAGE”, which is lavishly decorated with Chinese architecture and elements of Chinese culture inspired by Shantung Street in Suzhou, which UNESCO awarded World Heritage Site status. The beauty and rich heritage of this place has earned it the name the Venice of the East, and this time it will be presented using AR to give a real life experience. |
Illustrator “Yoon” Phannapast Taychamaythakool has created these characters for King Power for the Chinese New Year. She talked about the inspiration for the Rat Family characters, designed as a Chinese New Year present for Thais and international visitors, “To celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Metal Rat 2020, I want to present family father for the Chinese New Year in which everyone feels happy and spends time together to do auspicious activities to attract good fortune to their lives, their home, their family and their loved ones, so that they could be happy and energized throughout the year. I designed the six characters as adorable and friendly white rats,
each of them wearing Chinese New Year clothes with auspicious motifs such as bat, peach, orange, dragon, flower, and butterfly. The six characters are doing activities that Chinese people typically do on Chinese New Year day, such as paying respect to the gods and their ancestors, tossing fortune sticks, eating auspicious food and fruits, giving out red envelopes, and witnessing the growth of the new generation in each passing year with happiness and joy.”
The characters are hand drawn and colored, which is the artist’s signature way of creating her work. The illustrations are then presented as AR and mascots for everyone to enjoy on this special occasion.
The Rat Family illustrations by Yoon for King Power present six auspicious wishes: longevity from Grandfather Kāngkāng, health from Grandma Jiànjiàn, wealth from Father Fúfú, abundance from Mother Fùfù, happiness from Brother Lèlè, and luck from Sister Jiājiā. These characters are used as gimmicks to decorate the Street Art zone using Augmented Reality for visitors to enjoy.
