Annual Cocktail Competition Challenges Bartenders in Bangkok ahead of Regional Finals
Bangkok, 2018: Bangkok Beer and Beverage Co., Ltd., an importer and distributor for Remy Cointreau products is hosting LA MAISON COINTREAU Thailand 2018 in Bangkok at Sukhumvit 11’s #FindThePhotoBooth bar on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 15.00 - 20.30pm; a cocktail competition to find Thailand’s best mixologist to send to the regional competition in Malaysia between October 22-25, 2018, with a cash prize too. The eight finalists will create their own original cocktails using certain Rémy Cointreau spirits and following a distinct theme for each of the challenges. Whilst the winner will receive THB 20,000 in prize money, the runner-up will be awarded THB 10,000 and the second runner-up, THB 5,000; with all the competing bartenders receiving a certificate and gift set too. The finalists come from all parts of Thailand and are several high-profile Bangkok bars, notably, #FindTheLockerRoom; #FindThePhotoBooth; Vesper Bar; Black Amber; Rabbit Hole; and the Penthouse Bar&Grill at the Park Hyatt. |
The finalists will compete in two challenges, creating a cocktail in each. The Botanist gin challenge is an “exploration into urban farming and local flavors”; inspired by the concepts of wild, foraged and distilled and looking for new flavors. Meanwhile, the Rémy Martin VSOP or XO cognac option focuses on the fact that “the flavor of a great drink is always impacted by its presentation”; with an ‘opulence reveal is inspired by using local markets, gardens, or stores to gather ingredients, and construct a Remy Martin cocktail and your own “reveal”. Marketing Director for Rémy Cointreau, Kittipat Chaiyakul, also reveals how Bangkok is a cocktail capital in Southeast Asia. “The bar scene in Bangkok in 2018 is fresh, exciting and sophisticated. |
Customers love signature cocktails crafted by talented mixologists who can pair unique ingredients with premium-branded spirits such as offered by Rémy Cointreau. A cocktail is a sensory journey and the annual LA MAISON COINTREAU competition seeks mixologists who use their skills to concoct a wonderful narrative.” In the Botanist challenge, judging is based around the concept of ‘wild’, assessing creativity and whether the ingredients go beyond the boundaries of tradition, along with whether the cocktail highlights the flavor of the spirit and how well a bartender understood and interpreted the theme. Meanwhile, for the Rémy Martin challenge the judges consider aromatics, flavor, presentation and the ‘wow’ factor. After an entry round and semi-final, the LA MAISON COINTREAU Thailand 2018 are judged by a panel of five, comprising Regional Education & Engagement Manager, REMY COINTREAU South East Asia, Scott Fitzgerald; Regional Brand Ambassador, REMY COINTREAU Greater China, Mark Huang; Wine & Spirit Guru, Thawatchai Tappitak; Founding Owner, ASIA TODAY & TEENS OF THAILAND (Asia’s 50 Best Bars), Nik Anuman; and Managing Director, PATINYA, Patinya Kyokong; with a party after the competition continuing on after the winners have been announced. |
