In pursuit of Taiwanese government’s “New Southbound Policy”, the Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA, commissioned the Commerce Development Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as CDRI) to conduct the “Wow! Taiwan Selects” innovative marketing campaign in oversea markets.
This year they launched a series of activities to capture the young digital generation of Malaysia and Thailand under excusive themes. In May a series of internet marketing events under the theme “Wow! Taiwan Must Buy” was introduced in Malaysia. This August, CDRI teams up with Thai internet celebrities on internet marketing under the theme “Live Better and Keep Moving!” to introduce selected creative and specialty Taiwanese products to the consumers, and increase brand awareness of Taiwan products in Thailand.

Today (8/28) CDRI is hosting a New Media VIP Event for the 2018 Wow! Taiwan Selects marketing campaign here in Bangkok. Attending invited guests include Mr. Tung Chen-yuan, the representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand; Mr. Jason Hsu, Director Economic Division of the Economics Division and local large retail distributors, as well as the entrepreneurs of the 15 participating Taiwanese brands. The Thai internet celebrities are also present at the event to promote the wonderful products of Taiwanese brands being showcased to Thai consumers.
As stated in Representative Tung’s opening remarks today (8/28): “Thailand and Taiwan share a close economic and trade relationship. According to trade report dated December 2017, investments by Taiwanese firms in Thailand amounted to US$14.48 billion. Taiwan is also the third largest foreign investor in Thailand, right behind Japan and USA. As of 2017, Taiwan ranked as Thailand’s 12th trading partner, and 5th source of imports. Thailand, being Taiwan’s important partner in investments, trades, tourism, and education, is a significant partnering country in Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy. The policy and Thailand’s 4.0 reform scheme are in agreement and compatible. Both countries have initiated talks and actions to promote bilateral industrial exchange and economic cooperation. This year is Wow! Taiwan Selects campaign’s first visit in Bangkok, Thailand. The campaign’s promotional activities include digital marketing on social media, online curation by Thai internet celebrities, and a New Media VIP Event. Special animations featuring products of Wow! Taiwan Selects will be displayed at the New Media VIP Event using interactive table projection mapping and multi touch screen to improve event experience for our Thai friends. Through this experience, we hope to show you the advance technologies and premium quality products of Taiwan that are on constant momentum to change the world.”
CDRI said: “The Wow! Taiwan Selects campaign has, since 2015, toured in many ASEAN countries, such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia; and this year to Fashion City Bangkok. In each ASEAN country, Wow! Taiwan Selects introduces Taiwan and Taiwanese brands with different themes and concepts each time, such as dynamic sport arena, dreamy theme park, live concert, and simulated featured Taiwan streets, all to communicate to local consumers the best impression of Taiwan.” Considering the fast development of social media, and Thailand having the 9th largest number of Facebook users with 47 million active users, and 27 million (57% of total population) of which are in Bangkok; Wow! Taiwan Selects has thus decided to conduct digital marketing and online curation for its marketing campaign this year to achieve best results.
For their first campaign in Thailand, Wow! Taiwan Selects chose the theme “Live Better and Keep Moving!” to showcase how Taiwanese products are best choices in keeping you moving forward for the better in your everyday life.
