On the auspicious 87th Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on August 12, 2019, the Culture Ministry has collaborated with the Thai Rice Foundation under the Royal Patronage, Chat rice brand and ICONSIAM organized an exhibition “Thai Treasures” to honor The Queen Mother for her greatest dedication and patronage to preserve Thai traditional silk and support Thai rice improvement.
At the official opening on Thursday, August 8, 2019, Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister recently presided over the “Thai Treasures Exhibition” together with Itthiphol Kunplome, Kitsayapong Siri, Pasinee Limatibul and Sumeth Laomoraphorn. Among honored guests and celebrities were Kleddao Panichsamai, M.R. Chantraladda Yukol, Prakarn Raiva, Natakorn-Natprapa Choonhavan, Pattamawadee Senanarong, Praewpreya Jumsai na Ayudhya, Jarospan Svasti Na Ayudhya, and Pimdao Panichsamai.
Mr. Itthiphol Kunplome, Minister of Culture, said that “Thai silk and Thai handicraft are well known in the overseas markets. The Queen Mother has been instrumental in promoting their recognition through her overseas trips. She managed to get the process of silk production started from start to finish and make it sustainable as an income-generation career. Thai silk is a valuable ancient heritage that represents our Thai value and pride. In recognition of The Queen Mother’s contribution, the Ministry of Culture is pleased to invite people to wear Thai silk clothes. Our participation in this exhibition is to demonstrate our loyalty to The Queen Mother and engage in the promotion of Thai silk as our Thai treasure.” Mr.Sumeth Laomoraphorn, CEO of C.P.Trading Group Co., Ltd. KhaoTraChat added that: “The contribution of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit for Thai rice industry has been enormous. Her Majesty’s insights have benefited Thai farmers throughout the years resulting in career sustainability and improved quality of life. Mrs.Pasinee Limatibul, Chairman of ICONSIAM Co., Ltd., disclosed that: “ICONSIAM is a platform that allows the world to see and appreciate our ancient traditions and culture that we regard as Thai treasures. Together with our business partners such as The ICONSIAM Superlux Residence Corporation Ltd. and The ICONSIAM Residence Corporation Ltd., we are pleased to co-host the Thai Treasures Exhibition in recognition of The Queen Mother’s strong patronage for Thai rice and Thai silk. There will be several traditional cultural activities to take place at Charoen Nakorn Hall, Floor M. Participating in the activities are 5 silk-producing communities as arranged by the Ministry of Culture and a display of KhaoTraChat of various types. Furthermore, the exhibition relating to Her Majesty Queen Regent Sirikit, The Queen Mother will be at Ratchada Hall on Floor 1.” At the exhibition, the Department of Rice put the following types of rice on display: Jasmin Rice 105, Kor Kaw 43, Brown Rice, Na Prung Rice, Prathum Thani Rice, Kam Payao or Black Sticky Rice, Puen Kama Rice, and Sangyod Rice. Those types of rice have been selected for the display following award-winning essays relating to “Local rice for good health.” |
Also, there will be a demonstration of premium quality of Thai silk from 5 communities: Baan Krua Nua Bangkok, Khuntham Wat Somsri Baan Siew Noi Chaiyaphume, Thor Pha Mai Baan Kon Kha Khon Khaen, Huaysai Suksawad Lamphune, and Baan Tha Krajai Surat Thani. The exhibition will also encompass innovation of Thai rice that reflects our Thai way of life whose rice consumption focus has made country a top rice exporter in the world. Other activities include a demonstration of how to keep Thai silk traditionally, a dialog of Benja Paki Fabric (5 Queens of Fabric), Thai zin silk embroidery technics (Zin Bua), Thai silk weaving, and food preparation using Tra Chat Rice by well-known celebrities.
At the Charoen Nakorn Hall, there were three sets of the fashion show: eight traditional Thai costumes, eight local Thai costumes from four Regions, and fifteen contemporary Thai costumes. They all were the works of Ek Thongprasert- a gifted designer and owner of the Ek Thongprasert brand. Their pattern structure is geometrical-centric featuring circular, triangle, square and line shapes whose application elevates our Thai costumes into a contemporary level. We appreciate the support from the Ministry of Culture and are grateful for the world-class jewelry accessories from Beauty Gems Co., Ltd. in support of the Thai silk fashion shows.
Another outstanding highlight is the “Sivalai Thai Costume” that will be on display from Lampoon Province. It took five months to complete it and is worth more than Baht 500,000. Also, we are honored to welcome Kenko Kuma, a world-class Japanese architect, who is famous for his ability to integrate nature into culture and environment. His task is to design the stage using natural materials compatible with the Thai way of life. His stage design will be that of the rice terraces made from head rice and the golden ears of rice. The design is a perfect combination of beauty, modernity, and Thainess.
