Mr Surakrich Sattatam, a well-known film director, and Mr Patara Vijupanont, Founder & Strategic Communications Manager at Pixel Serum, who gives workshops on short films at top academic institutes throughout Thailand such as Bangkok University, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thammasat University, and Assumption University (ABAC), said: “The judges have selected 20 contestants from the competition and picked 5 teams for the final round: 1. “The Real World” from Nasho team, Bangkok University 2. “Genre” from Bandplear team, Bangkok Christian College 3. “Lift Me Alone” from Yen Nee Kin Kai team, Silpakorn University 4. “Sunday” from THRIVE team, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, and Assumption University 5. “Yellow” from RIP127, Silpakorn University |
"The work of the 300 teams shows so much creativity, vision, technique, and editing skill that they will keep developing as professional film makers. All teams can apply the knowledge from the workshop to their work or their other activities for themselves and society. Nowadays, social media channels need footage such as live broadcasts, so such experience opens career opportunities. Animation and film production skills are in demand in the creative sector,” said Mr Vijupanont.
Mr Chantavit Dhanasevi, or Ter, a well-known actor, said: “Having embarked on a film career straight after my degree, I am grateful to MQDC for supporting the short film competition of ‘My Third Place at 101 The Third Place’, as it gives an opportunity for those who are interested in this field. Short films need to be crafted to be clear and to get to the point because of their time constraints. It is a task that requires the ability to communicate through animation and to master both film and presentation. Making short films is like a martial art and it is a challenge to present them to the audience and hit the target.
"I found the films from all the teams equally interesting. As the prize is restricted, the board must pick the film with the least defects, which means every team has the skill and potential to develop their own work. The answer to what you want to offer, the essence of film is short, sharp, but powerful. It will draw on the charm of the short film to engage the most viewers.”
Mr Chantavit, or Ter, graduated in film and has a background in film production, including as a screenwriter, assistant film director, photographer, and acting coach of GDH. He has been nominated for the 11th Starpics Award as best scriptwriter together with Nontra Kumwong and Banjong Pisantanakul for Pee Mak Phra Khanong and Hello Stranger (Kuan Muen Ho). He also received the Shanghai International Film Festival’s award for best rising star.
