Popular actor Tik Jesdaporn Pholdee has recently travelled with UNICEF team to Mozambique where he met children and families affected by the cyclones. The mission was part of a campaign that aims to raise awareness on the urgent needs of children and families as well as raise funds to support the cyclone survivors.
More than 1.6 million children in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe are still in need of humanitarian assistance, including healthcare, nutrition, protection, education, as well as water and sanitation services. Cyclone Idai which hit the three countries a few months ago has been the most devastating disaster which hit southern Africa over the past 20 years. Six weeks later, Cyclone Kenneth made landfall in northern Mozambique – the first time in recorded history two strong tropical cyclones have hit the country in the same season.
Last month, UNICEF Thailand launched a campaign to appeal to the Thai public for urgent donations in support of children and families affected by Cyclones Idai and Kenneth, naming Jesdaporn as the Campaign Champion.
“I can see children and families still suffering in the aftermath of the cyclone, up until this day,” Jesdaporn said. “I’m worried about their future, especially the future of the children who deserve to grow up in better living conditions. I truly believe that the support from Thai people in times like this will become a vital force that could help these children to overcome obstacles and return to normal life again.”
