Riverside mall famous for its antiques returns with a bigger range of shops and restaurants
IN celebration of its 31st anniversary, Bangkok’s premier purveyor of arts and antiques has just completed a 280 million baht renovation which has completely transformed the riverside five-storey shopping complex. Bigger in size and scope, the reinvigorated mall now features around 100 stores selling a wide range of antiques and artworks from throughout Asia and beyond – a treasure trove of rare finds bound to delight veteran collectors and newbies alike. What’s more, the mall has a striking new look; a beguiling blend of black, white and gold, glass panels and high ceilings, creating the perfect atmosphere for hunting statues, sculptures, shields, ornaments, furniture, and other alluring antiques. It’s not all about arts and antiques at River City Bangkok, though. As you’d expect from a shopping mall of this caliber, it also devotes a good portion of its space to pure retail therapy. Whether you’re looking for luxurious silk made using the special weaving method Mud-Mee-Son (double ikat – a specialized dyeing technique similar to tie-dye) available from the renowned Chabatik shop, or excellent suits and glamorous dresses designed by bespoke tailors (try ANS International) – River City Bangkok has a wealth of specialist shops covering a wide range of sophisticated tastes. |
Other popular choices include leather goods (think handbags, watch straps, belts and furniture), jewellery, stylish watches (new and vintage – suitable for collectors and fashion savvy individuals), and furniture design stores.
When it comes to relaxing after a shopping spree, River City Bangkok also has several restaurants and cafés to choose from, most of which have outdoor terraces overlooking the Chao Phraya River.
Among the highlights are the River View Coffee Shop & Restaurant, which serves Thai-European fusion cuisine at good value for money; the famous TWG Tea room, which bolsters its renowned tea selections with some oh-so-delicious macarons; and the hip and trendy Viva & Aviv The River, a bar and café notable for its friendly service, top-quality comfort food (the thin crust pizzas are great) and lovely riverside setting.
