To celebrate Franco-Thai diplomatic relations and France’s remarkable contribution to Thailand, Silpakorn University will award H.E. Emmanuel Macron, the current President of France, an honorary doctorate in International Business.
In announcing the honorary degree at a reception on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at SO Sofitel Bangkok, Mr. Pradech Phayakvichien, Chairman, Silpakorn University Council, spoke of the close relations between France and Thailand from the past until the present, especially in terms of cultural promotion and education.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Wanchai Sutananta, President, Silpakorn University, also discussed the special relationship between France and Silpakorn University. He noted that four former Presidents of Silpakorn University attended French schools and universities and how Silpakorn’s faculty and students have benefitted from French expertise in a number of disciplines from archaeology to business.

H.E. Mr. Gilles Garachon, French Ambassador to Thailand, attending his last function as Ambassador in Bangkok before taking up a new assignment in Paris, spoke warmly of the long standing friendly relations between the two nations at every level. Originally established in 1923, Silpakorn University is one of Thailand’s oldest and most prestigious universities. In making the award, the university noted that President Emmanuel Macron is widely recognised for his outstanding achievements in the field of international business, while also placing the promotion of international business at the centre of national agenda. |
Since becoming the President of France, Mr. Macron has been lauded for a number of campaigns aimed at promoting the country’s wellbeing, including: the reformation of labour laws to meet the current economic situation, supporting social equality – namely gender equality in the labour market; encouraging international investment and innovative business strategies to mobilize the French economy; and last not least, his leading role in the fight against global warming. For over 30 years, the French Government has continuously supported educational affairs at Silpakorn University in a variety of study disciplines. They include Science; Sociology; Language & Literature; Archaeology & Arts. Many educational collaborative agreements have been arranged between Silpakorn University and French academic institutions. Silpakorn University International College in particular, has established a special relationship with France. Since its creation in 2003, the College has been working closely with leading French Business Schools and developed three BBA double degree programs: Hotel Management with Vatel International Business School, Event and Leisure Marketing with Rennes School of Business and Luxury Brand Management with Paris School of Business. These three programs award a degree certificate from both Thailand and France. As such, the honorary degree awarded to President Emmanuel Macron brings pride not only to Silpakorn University, but to the Thai nation. |
