In this digital age, online population can express themselves, their abilities, and uniqueness regardless of ethnicity, gender or age.
However, in reality discrimination still exists, especially in social media. One thing that can connect people without boundaries is ‘music’. No matter where you are, what your medium is, or what your social status is, you can access and experience music equally.

Smirnoff has been a pioneer in creative activities and connecting people through music for over a decade, whether it’s the involvement of world-class music festivals like Coachella Valley, Tomorrowland or Watersonic. Today Smirnoff is reinforcing its leadership in ongoing support for creativity and music by launching an exciting campaign called We’re Open. The campaign looks to utilize music as a cultural media, promote gender equality, and encourage passionate individuals to showcase their talents and pursue their career in music.
Paul Sirisant, Marketing Diretor of Diageo Möet Hennessy (Thailand) Co. Ltd. said: “We noticed that music festivals all over the world have expanded exponentially at the community and national levels, or even at the regional or international levels. But it is very rare that we see female DJs performing at those events. Many still perceive female DJs as having more sexiness over their talents, while in fact there are many talented and succesful female DJs out there. Often the perception is that leading DJs have to be foreigners, most of which are male”. “Smirnoff is a brand that brings fun and connectivity through a variery of music events. This campaign will be used as a means for promoting diversity and equality in the music world. We want to encourage artists to step up to a new level and have a space to perform, as well as promote them to be famous internationally. In Thailand we have 3 very talented female DJs who have rocked the electronic music world through their unique style and identity. This campaign has been successful and will be open to others who are talented and passionate about music – so that they too can realise their dreams”, Paul added. |
We’re Open is Smirnoff’s global campaign which encourages equality in the music world through collaboration with Mixmag (a magazine and online media), and 20 DJs from 9 countries around the world, namely, Kenya, England, South Africa, India, Angola, Nigeria, Indonesia, Lebanon and Thailand. Three Thai female DJs that are part of this exciting campaign are DJ Nakadia (Seephrai Mungphanklang), DJ Mendy (Satika Rapimsamrong) and DJ XO8O9 (Note Panayanggool)
‘Nakadia’ (Seephrai Mungphanklang) – A young female DJ performing her style of Scene Techno Music. Nakadia’s skills and talents have been proven in the DJ world internationally that she is incredibly gifted and passionate about sounds. Besides, she is a DJ who is committed to ongoing improvement, as she constantly experiments on new things. She had been performing gigs for 14 years before she became world-renowned. She’s also been invited to perform at famous clubs and international festivals, such as Ushuaia Ibiza (Ants), which is voted one of the top parties in Ibiza. Nakadia has also been traveling to perform in more than 30 countries each year, for example, England, Germany, Italy, etc. In total she has performed in 60 countries, where she has shown some fearless mixing in what she really loves doing. Most importantly, Nakadia is about to be showcasing her amazing talent at a great music festival like Tomorrowland 2018.
‘Mendy Indigo’ (Satika Rapimsamrong) - A cool female DJ from Korat, whose dark and melodic sounds are known to many Techno lovers. Mendy had different jobs previously, from selling clothes at a night market, singing in a bar, to working as a photographer in Nepal. It was in fact the trip to Nepal that introduced her to electronic music and someone who changed her life in 2011. Since then she was determined to embark on a journey of Dark Melodic and Organic Techno, a style that she continues to expose to lovers of Techno. This talented female DJ developed her distinctive style which really pleased her fans. She consistently refined her performance until she became world-renowned, and many music festivals are waiting impatiently to collaborate with her. Smirnoff is therefore proud to present another young female DJ to empower women who love sounds and dream to become a professional DJ to step up and express themselves boldly, just like how DJ Mendy has proven to the world that her incredible energy and talents made her become a leading female DJ.
‘X0809’ (Note Panayanggool) – A female DJ who dared to break the rules of her career as a singer, actress, and model, by becoming a sweet lovely DJ. Note loves both fashion and music. Recently this year, she was privileged to be a part of a world-class fashion event in Paris, where she also showcased her DJ talents. The genre she mastered is Electronic Pop, to which she added her own style collected from more than 6 years of experience in the music world. Note is aware that the journey to becoming world-famous isn’t easy. That’s why she started learning and experiencing more at music festivals around the world. It was then that her life’s focus changed and she wanted to become a DJ. Note is a determined woman. If there is a music festival she loves, she will try to be a part of the event to perform a gig for music lovers, e.g. Bangkok Block Party 2018 and Summer Noise in the Philippines.

Tala Mortada – a graphic designer from Beirut, Lebanon. Even though she grew up in the midst of her country’s chaos, it didn’t stop her determination.
