Sony Music Entertainment (SME) today announced the opening of its new office in Thailand in the heart of Bangkok. With this move, the company is solidifying its commitment to Thailand’s burgeoning music market, recognising the country’s vibrant local music scene and partnering with Thai artists to help them achieve their greatest creative and commercial potential.
Asia’s music industry has experienced double-digit growth for the third consecutive year, up by 15.4%, outpacing the overall global growth rate according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry(IFPI). Overall revenues from Asia accounted for 22.9% of the global music market. Thailand's music industry, in particular, is projected to be one of the fastest growing markets in Southeast Asia, as the nation achieved double digit revenue growth in 2022, with revenues surpassing US$100 million for the first time in 2022, of which 90% is attributed to streaming. Thailand is also the only Southeast Asian nation to break into the global Top 20 by revenue share through streaming.
Strategically situated in Bangkok, SME’s new Thailand office serves as a creative hub housing specialists in Artists and Repertoire (A&R), Marketing, Business Development and Legal functions, enabling SME to support the talent pool in Thailand, a market renowned for its creativity.
At SME Thailand’s new home, artists will be able to tap into key expertise and pooled resources under one roof to explore and fulfill their creative pursuits. The integrated creative hub aims to inspire cross-functional innovation, with the addition of a content creation studio and a music writing room. The studio provides artists with tools and technology to produce high-quality content, ranging from short form music videos to behind-the-scenes footage. It offers a space where artists can bring their musicality visions to life and showcase their artistry in visually captivating ways. Additionally, the dedicated music writing room serves as a sanctuary for songwriters and musicians to immerse themselves in the creative process.
