Tang Contemporary was established in 1 9 9 7 in Bangkok, and now holds four commercial contemporary art galleries in Asia: two museum scale galleries in Beijing’s prestigious 7 9 8 district; at H Queen’s building in the Hong Kong’s Central business district. In September 2019, Tang Contemporary will open its Bangkok gallery at River City Bangkok.
Visionary gallery owner, Mr. Zheng Lin provides a platform for international artists to present their works to private collectors, corporations and public institution from Asia and around the world. Artists like Ai Weiwei whose solo show (March 2018) set new price records for his work, and Michelangelo Pistoletto solo show (May 2 0 1 8 ) who attracted significant sales and media attention. Groundbreaking exhibitions have earned the gallery global recognition, establishing its status as a pioneer in the development of the contemporary art scene in Asia and as one of the most important galleries in China.
Tang Contemporary’s long-term plan is to expand their international programming. Commenting on the move, Mr. Zheng said “Our new 4 2 0 square meter gallery will host some of the most exciting and thought-provoking exhibitions to be seen in Bangkok, very much in line with the work being done by Linda Cheng to revitalize the famous riverfront antique and art center. “
Located in Bangkok’s vibrant Creative District on the bank of the majestic Chaophraya River, River City Bangkok, a subsidiary of ITALTHAI and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (Hong Kong), has been Asia’s premier antique and art center for 3 4 years. Dedicating the center’s second floor to public and commercial contemporary at galleries is phase two of River City’s transformation.
