Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, host “Pathum Niwas Racha Pipittapan” exhibition, in honor of Queen Savang Vadhana, the great grandmother of King Rama X.
The exhibition features four parts: Her Royal Highness’ biography and her life that spanned across six reigns, her remarkable artistic talents that represented Thailand on an international level, her historical personal belongings as well as the history of Queen Savang Vadhana Museum. The Museum was graciously conceived by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who dedicated the Main Building of Sra Pathum Palace to be the Museum’s establishment, as part of the late King Rama IX’s initiative.
Four sections of the exhibitions include:
First section: The royal biography of Queen Savang Vadhana showcases Queen Savang Vadhana’s biography and her gracious royal life that spanned as long as six reigns. Featured also are her grace and many dedicated works.

Section 2: The Grace of a Visionary Artist
On display are the Queen’s remarkable artistic talents especially her exceptional haute embroidery skills of the Royal Court. The Queen was highly regarded by King Rama V to oversee a number of traditional art and craft exhibitions, both domestic and overseas. Her distinguished abilities successfully brought wide recognition and great reputation to the artistry of Thai ladies to the eyes of the world, which can be dated over 100 years back, as referenced in the World’s Columbian Exposition 1893 in Chicago, USA.
Part 3: The Royal Works and Initiatives
This part presents Queen Savang Vadhana’s works that were fruitful and beneficial to the nation and Thai people, which cover many fields such as public health, medical care, culture, education and humanities. Her Royal Highness’ achievement was recognized by UNESCO’s as one of the world great personalities on her 150th birthday anniversary on 10 September 2012.
Part 4: Queen Savang Vadhana Museum
The final part features the history of Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation which is located at “Phra Tamnak Yai” (the Main Building) of Sra Pathum Palace, her royal residence constructed over 100 years ago.
Also on display are her letter archives and her personal belongings such as an over 100-year-old embroidered fabric partition, a photo book of Thailand that was presented as gift to Mrs. Palmer, the President of lady talent at the World’s Columbian Exposition 1983, and traditional Thai sweets that were once participated in the contest at the fair.Visitors can also enjoy demonstrations and workshops on traditional Thai cooking such as Pan Sib or Rice Ravioli, Bu Lan Dan Mek or Thai steamed rice cake, or learn traditional Thai crafts like making flower garlands and lotus leaf folding art by experts from The Royal Traditional Thai Craft School for Women.
