Surawongs has long been a hotspot for dining and entertainment for Thais and tourists alike, thanks to its central location and convenient access. The street is historically important, as it became one of the first locations in Bangkok for fine-dining restaurants catering to noblemen and foreign dignitaries.

Mekhong, the Spirit of Thailand, a brand of Thai spirit loved the world over for more than 80 years, has partnered with Baan Suriyasai to reawaken the spirit of Thailand by introducing the Suriyasai Content Bar – the latest addition to Surawongs Road. Bringing to life the uniqueness of Thai culture and stories of Mekhong, the content bar adds a modern reinterpretation for the younger generations and tourists through the contemporary design of the bar, a selection of Thai inspired cocktails and other activities.

Walking through the Content Bar is like being taken back through time. Shades of green are inspired by the color of Mekhong bottles back when the brand first began. The smooth curves of the bar mimic the shape of the bottles. Visitors to the bar are immersed in the aesthetics of ancient Thailand, invoking the Thai way of life and drinking culture from the era in which Mekhong was born.

Within the Content Bar, visitors will find the Main Bar, where mixologists work their magic on Thai inspired cocktails against the backdrop of an impressive display of Mekhong bottles through time. The Mini Bar is perfect for delightful conversations over a glass or two, while the Cigar Room offers more privacy, but still allows the liveliness of the main area to seep in, thanks to the open space design. A band playing contemporary music complements the aesthetics of the cocktails.
“Warrior” is an award-winning cocktail from the Mekhong Thai Spirit Cocktails 2017 competition and was served at the Michelin Guide gala dinner to represent the spirit of Thailand. The cocktail – specially designed for Baan Suriyasai – is inspired by the ancient spirit drunk by Thai soldiers to boost morale and inspire bravery within the troops. Bold and robust, the cocktail is the embodiment of Mekhong. Red wine brings a contemporary element to an otherwise authentic combination of Thai flavors. The cocktail is decorated with lemon gross and jasmine petals, a symbol of purity and unconditional love given to warriors before they go off to war.

Thai Sabai – the signature cocktail of Thailand – represents the free-spirited, friendly and easygoing nature of Thais. The cocktail is made from fresh lime juice and Thai basil. Rampai limes – an ancient breed – is used because of its juiciness, tart flavor and fragrance. The rum is uplifted by the zesty lime flavor and an herbal note provided by Thai basil.

“Manet” is the first cocktail created for the Content Bar. It is named in honor of the first soft drink introduced in Thailand during the reign of King Rama IV. Manet was a Thai pronunciation of “lemonade”. Suriyasai Content Bar offers its own twist on Manet by mixing the caramel-sweet flavor and vanilla scent of Mekhong rum with fresh passion fruit and crushed young ginger. The mix is topped with refreshing soda water just before it is served, making the cold fizzy cocktail a perfect thirst quencher especially in Thailand’s heat.

“Gaysorn” cocktail is a mixture of tea infused with peach, roselle, orange, and mint overnight, and Mekhong rum. Lime juice, apple juice, pear juice, and ginger ale add sweet notes and fragrance to the cocktail, hence its name Gaysorn, which means “pollen” in Thai.

Apart from the outstanding décor and selection of Thai inspired cocktails, the Content Bar also offers visitors other activities to reawaken the spirit of Thailand. Live music featuring contemporary Thai musical numbers as well as rotating exhibitions around the bar transport guests back in time to experience the old charms of Thailand. Other contemporary arts such as installation arts, performances, and fashion shows will also be staged.
