Creative Director Daniel Lee’s first runway show for the house is an exercise in elevated detail, noble materials and energetic silhouette.
While the quiet craft central to Bottega Veneta’s identity is still present, Fall 2019 brings a sharp injection of modernity to traditional technique, turning up the volume. Combining the human hand with technology and process, the result is simultaneously classic and contemporary. A viewpoint on the house’s Italian origins seen through today’s global lens offers another visible tension – the conspicuous and the refined, high and low, hedonism and intellect. The season’s palette is also a reflection on this discussion, chemical hues and shimmering embellishment meet natural tones and everyday colour. Presenting a new vocabulary for Bottega Veneta, leather and the house’s Intrecciato weave is reinterpreted and evolved. Polished dresses and layered knitwear pair with armour-like outerwear, sharp tailoring and confident accessories. Ultimately, the aim of this season’s collection is a simple one, to evoke emotion - pleasure and joy, desire and beauty. Piaget once again returns to the enchanting landscape of Sunlight Escape, with a second chapter of creativity from its high jewellery ateliers. Re-visiting the themes presented in July 2018, the maison revels in the motifs and imagery of a frozen, snowy, mysterious landscape, illuminated by the glistening sun of a winter’s sky, always inspired by the audacious beauty of nature at its most mesmerising. With new additions spread across three chapters – Warming Lights, Exalting Sights and Dancing Nights - the maison dazzles with its creative energy, offering bold designs, exquisite metiers d’art and exceptional gemstones in a combination that is both unexpected and yet quintessentially, recognisably Piaget. Warming Lights Continuing its long-held tradition of creating exceptional high jewellery watches, Piaget offers the White Sun watch (G0A43230), in homage to the Winter sun as it burns with a bewitching white light across the clear Arctic sky. Just as the sun’s rays illuminate the icy plains, so do the ‘rays’ of 12 white kite-cut diamonds and 81 brilliant-cut diamonds which are mixed with hand-engraved white gold ‘Palace Décor’ ‘sticks’ that radiate from a central mother-of-pearl dial. In the world of Piaget, White Sun is a fitting tribute to the houses’ continued celebration of the sun as a life-giving, perpetually-shining, celebratory motif Exalting Sights
Re-enforcing its position as the pre-eminent creator of high jewellery cuffs, Piaget extends its story with the one-off Frosted Star piece (G36M7900). Taking inspiration from the symmetrical compositions of snowflakes and their infinite iterations, as well as this cuff showcases a beautiful central 5.12 carat cushion cut Madagascan blue sapphire surrounded by 8 exceptional square-cut black opals. Diamonds in 4 different cuts radiate out further before the in-house engraver showcases their historical Piaget know-how in a new ‘frost’ version of the signature ‘Palace Décor’. In celebration of the whitest of colour palettes – an ode to the purity of falling snow – Piaget presents an elegant sautoir (G37N6300) of white opals, south sea pearls and white diamonds. Set in white gold it is the perfect embodiment of the playful, joyful creativity that defines the maison. Mixing the iridescence of opals, the lustre of pearls and the sparkle of diamonds to perfect harmonious effect while radiating from a central snow-flake inspired design, this sautoir is a true celebration of the houses’ exceptional jewellery and design know-how. Each of the above 5 screenplays received USD 30,000 to produce the pilot episode. The best out of these pilot episodes, decided by HOOQ subscribers and a star-studded judging panel consisting of the top film talents around Asia, will be commissioned into a full series produced and aired on HOOQ. The inaugural HOOQ Filmmakers Guild pilots have gone on to win various awards including the Grand Prize for Best Television Pilot at the 22nd Annual Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF), Best Comedy Programme for Indonesia and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Singapore at the inaugural Asian Academy Creative Awards.
