The COS Spring Summer 2020 collection explores two prominent concepts bound by interdisciplinary utilitarian practicality and deconstructed architectural references. Technicality and innovation work cohesively with minimalist raw-edge techniques to form a collection of redefined classics.

The season presents modernist garments through details of craftmanship. Innovation is materialised with vegetable-dyed fabric and coated denim. Texture and construction are revisited to create distinctive highlights with interwoven details, whilst foiled high-twist fabric is merged with cotton in a new technical offering, creating statement pieces for the season. Consciously progressing our fabrics, all cotton in the collection is 100% more sustainably sourced. This includes Better Cotton Initiative sourcing and organic, recycled and repurposed cotton.

Framed by a colour palette reflective of raw utilitarian references; natural ecru, soft neutrals, and industrial light greys, act as a foundation for the collection, contrasted by electric cyan, bold red, mustard yellow and hues of indigo blue.

Inspired by geometric surfaces and aerial landscapes, the collection introduces new silhouettes – in womenswear, slim fits are juxtaposed with relaxed styles to create oversized proportions. Double layering and hidden pockets offer a fresh take on this season’s dresses. Classic three-piece tailoring is reinvented with raw-edge techniques seen in the form of a sleeveless blazer, a tailored boxer short and straight leg trouser made entirely from spun silk. A fluid dress is defined by effortless draping and tailoring is seen in a deconstructed cotton poplin dress. Hems are reworked from low to high for a modernised fit whilst offset necklines work to reimagine timeless pieces.
For menswear, double-faced cottons are stitched to create a quilted jacket, adding lightness to a layered piece. New masculinity is imagined through a more feminine approach to menswear styles, achieving a modular, playful silhouette. Draping adds a multi-functional element to tailoring, seen in a double-breasted blazer and shirt. Discreet functionality is epitomised by a trench and cotton poplin shirt with hidden placket detailing. Landscape inspiration has evolved into a textured jacquard soft-knit jumper. To complete the collection, tailored styles sit alongside an elevated denim offering, coated to create a textured transitional assortment for the season.

Eclectic styling opportunities are shaped by an array of accessories; slip-on mules for both menswear and womenswear focus on achieving a nonchalant look with effortless simplicity in mind. Accessories are understated as shape influences design coming together in recycled sterling silver rectangular earrings and a folded triangular leather bag. Functionality in menswear is offered in the form of a multi-purpose blanket which can be styled to create a bag. Evolving with the collection, hair accessories are key for the season with a headband and curved hair barrette inspired by geometric landscapes to create texture.
