OPENING this month with the promise to turn ‘French cuisine upside down,’ J’aime by Jean-Michel Lorain at the luxury U Sathorn Bangkok is the French chef’s first foray into Asia. As owner of the three Michelin starred La Côte Saint Jacques in Joigny (the gateway to Burgundy), Chef Lorain enjoys a sterling reputation for his cuisine – creative French fare loaded with seasonal, prized ingredients. His Bangkok restaurant will open to the public on Oct 23, and Jean-Michel himself will be in town cooking for a week. After that, the reigns will be handed to his protégé, Amerigo Sesti, who will continue to create French cuisine served in an Asian style (think portions made for sharing), all within the restaurant’s unique upside-down interior.
