FOR or a venue that’s really quite modest in size and open for less than a year, Firehouse is having a massive impact on Bangkok’s popular restaurant scene. It’s captured the imagination of die-hard burger lovers, who rank amongst the world’s most passionate and critical diners, and it’s getting heaps of praise for an amazingly comprehensive menu featuring lots of reasonably priced home-cooked dishes like fish and chips, clam chowder and some of the best tacos in town.
Named in honor of firefighters, this airy and attractive little restaurant is uniquely decorated with what is surely the country’s largest collection of antique and vintage firemen helmets, and firefighter memorabilia. Even the red brick and wrought iron design gets its influence from the traditional red brick firehouses and fire stations of Europe and the US.
Located on Sukhumvit Soi 11 (opposite Q Bar), Firehouse was the idea of an expat long based in Asia homesick for the burgers and comfort foods he grew up eating back in his native Hawaii. Teaming up with a classically trained Thai chef and assisted by a San Diego-based restaurateur known for his tasty burgers, the expat created Firehouse’s innovative menu.
Most diners come for the restaurant’s Signature Firehouse burgers, which range from the 180gm Premium Burger made from Thai-French beef priced at a mere B195, to the formidable Black Angus Premium Burger, 180gms of fresh ground Australian Black Angus rib eye and short-loin beef priced at B380.
In between are all kinds of gems like the Angus Steak Burger, Champion Chili Burger, Mushroom Burger, Teriyaki Burger, Prawn Burger and the Caprese Burger. There’s also a Veggie Burger. Each is priced at B280 and comes with individual toppings and dressings.
Firehouse’s Fish & Chips (B260) is highly rated by its British and Australian customers, while the Seafood Bucket (B320) proves consistently popular.
Dishes inspired by recipes from real firefighters can be found on the recently launched Fireman menu. These include the Texas-style 100% beef Hot Chili, Pulled Pork sandwiches, Mac n Cheese, Clam Chowder, Cajun Shrimp and Pork Short Ribs.
Throughout October, the three new Meat Lover Burgers will be sold a special price of just B220.
Firehouse stocks a decent selection of bottled and draft beers, sensibly priced wines, and cocktails.
To celebrate its 1st anniversary in November, the restaurant will be running some great promotions. For the latest updates, visit the Firehouse facebook page.
