Mr. Narong Wunxiu, Governor of Phuket, Julian Lowry, General Manager of Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort, and John Achterberg, head goalkeeper coach for Liverpool FC of the English Premier League, joined the event "Releasing sea turtles back into their native habitat" and "Football Coaching Clinic with John Achterberg"
on June 30, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. in the Karon Room at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort.
The "Release Sea Turtles" initiative aims to boost the population of sea turtles, which are unique sea species in Thailand and must increase their numbers into the ecosystem, so it does not become extinct. Consider this practice as an effort to protect the sea's natural integrity. Furthermore, to raise public awareness of the significance of marine biological resources, twenty sea turtle cubs, aged six to ten months, were released on this day with the cooperation of the Sea Turtle Conservation Center, Phang Nga Naval Base, Third Naval Area.
Participating in the "Football Coaching Clinic with John Achterberg" activity were approximately 50 youth representatives from the Phuket area aged 8 to 12 years old, which included training techniques for receiving - passing the ball, scoring goals, and reading opponent game strategies, which the Phuket Provincial Police assisted.
Activities received support from Government and private sectors such as the 3rd Navy Area, Phuket Provincial Police, and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office. Sports equipment from Umbro and Super Sports were donated to participating school youths in Phuket to encourage the children and youths to pursue their dreams and become professional in sports. Events such as this is regarded as the launching point that will assist Phuket Province in becoming a future sports destination.
